Indianapolis International Airport welcomes Southwest Airlines’ nonstop flight to San Diego

New flight gives access to Southern California

INDIANAPOLIS, 2017-Jun-07 — /Travel PR News/ — Southwest Airlines launches its inaugural, nonstop flight out of the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) to San Diego today (June 4, 2017), providing a long-awaited direct, seasonal route for Indy businesses and leisure travelers to the southern West Coast.

The flight is scheduled to depart at 10:45 a.m., with daily service through August.

“Southern California, and particularly San Diego, has been our top unserved domestic route for Indianapolis – until today,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “This new flight opens up direct access for businesses, particularly the tech sector, and conference destinations.”

Until today, the only existing flight out of the Indy airport to southern California was via Los Angeles International Airport.

Earlier this month Alaska Airlines launched its inaugural nonstop flight to Seattle and Allegiant launched its inaugural nonstop flight to Austin, Texas. Alaska Airlines will add further to the list of new or additional routes when it launches its inaugural flight out of Indy to San Francisco in September.

Today, Southwest Airlines provides 33 percent of the Indianapolis airport’s passenger travel. Southwest connects Indy travelers to 19 nonstop destinations across the United States.

The growth of nonstop flights out of Indianapolis has grown to 46 destinations to date.
