Request for Qualifications released today are due back for review on May, 11 2015
INDIANAPOLIS, 2015-3-26 — /Travel PR News/ — In an effort to both continue its record of sustainability and to allow it to efficiently accommodate future expansion and improvements, the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) is, pursuant to the issuance of a Request for Qualification (RFQ), seeking qualifications from potential partners to address long-term stormwater and wastewater capacity issues at the airport.
The IAA owns and operates nearly 7,700 acres of land, in addition to 2,000 acres of protected habitat land for the federally endangered Indiana bat. This large footprint, much of it impervious surfaces which produce ground water runoff combined with unique issues such as the management of de-icing chemicals, creates both a cost and sustainability challenge. This proposed partnership will give the IAA the opportunity to set a new standard in the way it handles discharges from airport operations.
The IAA maintains an infrastructure system of storage basins, conveyances, control structures and associated equipment to manage stormwater and deicing fluid runoff at the Indianapolis International Airport (IND). The system captures runoff from aircraft and airfield pavement and carries it to storage and ultimately through the sewers for wastewater treatment.
The airport’s stormwater/wastewater systems are sufficient for the current volume of storm water activity but have limited capacity for new development. Within the next 10 years, the IAA anticipates substantial growth in its airside operations, which will have a significant impact on the airport’s systems.
The IAA seeks partners who will bring state-of-the-art thinking to the glycol management and disposal process and propose cost-effective and sustainable capital improvements to the airport’s systems. The ideal partner will be able to supply operations, maintenance, repair, replacement and administration services for the systems while providing for their long-term expansion.
This RFQ represents an additional step in the IAA’s national record of sustainable progress represented in its completion of the largest airport solar farm, the only LEED certified terminal complex, and the new partnership with the White Lick Beekeepers Association to promote bee preservation and education.
