400 million accumulated passengers within 13 years of its establishment
2014-8-26 — /Travel PR News/ — On the 14th, Incheon International Airport Corporation held an event to celebrate Incheon Airport’s 400 millionth passenger in the Arrival Area and the Millennium Hall of the Passenger Terminal. Incheon International Airport Corporation presented a key that represents good luck and round-trip tickets to Sun Yun, who arrived at Incheon Airport on Korean Air flight 896 (arriving at 11:50am) from Shanghai, China.
When it opened in 2001, Incheon Airport only had 14.54 million visitors. Since then, the figures jumped at an average of 6.4% every year, reaching 100 million in 2005, 200 million in 2009, 300 million in 2012 and 400 million recently on the 14th.
Incheon Airport attributed this growth to several factors, including its continuous efforts to expand its air network which resulted in 84 service airlines and 193 cities connected at the end of last month, domestic LCCs entering the international route market in 2009 and leading the increase in the number of passengers, and the steady increase of passengers on China routes. (the number of passengers using LCC : 3.4 hundred thousand (2009) → 4.88 million (2013), the number of passengers on China routes : 3.36 million (2003) → 8.91 million (2013)
For the first time since its opening, Incheon Airport recorded 160,000 daily visitors on the 3rd of this month. Incheon Airport also recorded 889 airline flights and 146,704 cargos processed, both figures being the highest ever.
