IHG Hotels & Resorts is bringing its fast-growing Garner brand to Ahmedabad, adding another midscale project to its India pipeline as the company deepens its partnership with United Hospitality Management India and targets one of western India’s key commercial centres.

The newly signed Garner Hotel Ahmedabad Motera is scheduled to open in 2029 under a franchise agreement with IHG. The 40-room hotel will be developed by Devpriya Buildcon and managed by United Hospitality Management India, extending a relationship that both companies have been using to grow branded hospitality offerings across high-potential Indian markets.

The project will give Garner its first entry into Ahmedabad, where hotel demand is being supported by the city’s industrial base, transport investment and growing visitor flows. In a statement announcing the signing, IHG said the property will sit at the Motera-Sabarmati junction in North Ahmedabad, close to the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Sabarmati bullet train hub and nearby corporate districts.

The location is central to the investment case. Ahmedabad remains one of India’s leading economic and industrial centres, with activity spread across pharmaceuticals, textiles, information technology, infrastructure and corporate headquarters. Continued investment in sports and transport infrastructure is also helping broaden the city’s appeal for business and transient travel, creating an opening for internationally branded midscale accommodation.

IHG is positioning Garner as a conversion-friendly brand in the essentials segment, built around value-led stays with a straightforward proposition focused on location, sleep quality and breakfast. By bringing the brand to Ahmedabad, the group is aiming to widen its reach among travellers looking for reliable but more accessible hotel options, while giving owners access to IHG’s broader enterprise systems and loyalty ecosystem.

For IHG, the signing also strengthens a wider India expansion push. The company said it currently has 53 operating hotels across six brands in the country and a pipeline of 110 more due to open over the next three to five years. In Ahmedabad, its existing footprint includes Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre and Holiday Inn Express Ahmedabad Prahlad Nagar, with Holiday Inn Ahmedabad also in the pipeline.

Sudeep Jain, managing director for South West Asia at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said Ahmedabad’s economic momentum and connectivity growth made it an important market for the group’s India strategy. Deepika Arora, managing director of United Hospitality Management India, said the agreement reflected owners’ confidence in the pairing of IHG’s brands with UHM’s local operating model, while Devpriya Buildcon partner Prashant Thakkar pointed to the city’s rising visitor demand and infrastructure development as reasons for backing the project.

Beyond the hotel itself, the scheme is designed as a mixed-use development that will also include retail, banquet and restaurant facilities as well as a hospital. That broader configuration is intended to create a more integrated offer for guests and to align the property with the mixed demand patterns emerging in fast-growing urban districts.

The agreement underlines how global hotel groups are continuing to chase secondary and high-growth urban markets in India, where branded supply remains well placed to benefit from infrastructure upgrades and rising domestic travel. For IHG, the Ahmedabad signing is less about a single hotel than about using Garner to build scale in markets where a flexible midscale model can travel quickly.
