Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport opens registration for The Mayor’s 5k on the 5th Runway

Fundraising effort to benefit United Way of Greater Atlanta

ATLANTA, 2016-Jun-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) officials, working with the United Way of Greater Atlanta (UWGA), opened registration today for The Mayor’s 5k on the 5th Runway. The race, a USATF-certified 5k course and AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifier, will take place Saturday, Aug. 27 at 6:30 a.m. Race organizers hope to exceed the more than $100,000 raised in last year’s inaugural Mayor’s 5K on the 5th Runway.

“It’s a fun way to give our friends and neighbors a chance to see our 5th Runway up close,” interim Airport General Manager Roosevelt Council Jr. said today. “Far more importantly, it serves as a fundraising effort for the United Way of Greater Atlanta, an organization that continues to serve our community in countless ways.”

ATL’s runway 10-28 will be cleared for runners and walkers alike, giving them a unique opportunity to race along what is considered the flattest course in the region. Registration will be limited, so those interested in participating are urged to register soon.
