Grand Jersey’s Tassili is featured in the 2013 Good Food Guide

2012-08-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — Grand Jersey’s Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant, Tassili, which is run by award-winning executive head chef Richard Allen, has been included in the prestigious Good Food Guide for the first time.

Since 1951, The Good Food Guide has reviewed the best restaurants, pubs and cafés across the UK with a new guide being compiled annually. All reviews are based on the extensive feedback received from readers of the guide together with information gained through anonymous inspections. This process ensures that every entry is reassessed each year.

Richard said ‘I am delighted for the whole team that Tassili has been included in this prestigious guide for the first time. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of our restaurant team and also to the support we receive from the team in the hotel. We’re very proud to add this accolade to our list of achievements, including our Michelin star.’

The first Good Food Guide was compiled by Raymond Postgate in 1951 who was appalled by the British post-war dining experience. He formed The Good Food Club, a group of volunteers who inspected restaurants anonymously, providing him with feedback. According to the Good Food Guide website, ‘His aims were simple, among them, to raise the standard of cooking in Britain and to do ourselves all a bit of good by making our holidays, travels and evenings-out in due course more enjoyable.’

Today the primary aim of The Good Food Guide is to help readers find the best places to eat and to encourage restaurants to prepare the best possible food and deliver the highest levels of customer service.

Richard and the team at Tassili have enjoyed great success in the last 12 months. In June, Richard won the Restaurant Chef of the Year category at the prestigious Craft Guild of Chefs Awards shortly after being recognised in the prestigious Debrett’s 2012 People of Today list. He has also been shortlisted for a prestigious Hotel Catey award two years in succession, 2010 and 2011, and in October 2011 Tassili secured a Michelin star. Tassili has this month been included in Chef Magazine’s list of its favourite five restaurants.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Richard trained at Bournemouth and Poole catering school before embarking on his career as a chef and has since had the opportunity to work with a variety of renowned chefs including Australian master chef Cheong Liew, Martin Blunos and Michele Roux JR – all of whom have influenced Richard’s style of cuisine.

After working in various Michelin-starred kitchens, Richard took up the head chef role at the Cavendish Restaurant in Bath where he gained his first 3 AA Rosettes.  Following three years at the Cavendish, Richard relocated to Jersey to take up the position of executive head chef at Grand Jersey.
