From Messaging to Hotel Booking, IHG Uses LINE MINI App to Reach Travellers Across Asia

(NEWS) SINGAPORE, 2026-Aug-14 — /Travel PR News/ — IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding its LINE MINI App to Thailand and Taiwan, marking another step in the hotel group’s regional digital strategy and its effort to reach travellers through the platforms they already use every day.

The launch makes IHG the first hotel company to introduce its own LINE MINI App in the Thailand and Taiwan markets. It follows the app’s earlier rollout in Japan, where IHG says the platform has attracted more than four million followers.

Based on details shared in IHG’ official announcement, the app gives LINE users direct access to IHG’s global portfolio of more than 7,000 hotels, while also integrating IHG One Rewards functions and market-specific offers inside the LINE ecosystem.

For travellers, the idea is straightforward: hotel discovery, booking and loyalty access can happen without leaving a familiar messaging and services platform. Users can search and book IHG hotels, join IHG One Rewards, sign in using LINE credentials, check membership status, track points, redeem rewards and access member benefits.

In Thailand, the app also includes access to IHG One Rewards dining privileges, adding a localised benefit that connects the digital tool with everyday hospitality experiences beyond room reservations.

The expansion reflects a wider shift in travel technology across Asia, where booking journeys are increasingly being built around mobile-first platforms, super-app behaviour and loyalty integration. Instead of asking guests to move across multiple apps or websites, hotel companies are looking for ways to place booking and member services inside the channels people already use frequently.

That makes LINE a particularly relevant platform for IHG’s regional strategy. The messaging service has a strong presence across Asia, with IHG citing 195 million monthly active users, including 56 million users in Thailand and 22 million in Taiwan. In Taiwan, that reach is equivalent to around 94% of the market’s population, underlining how deeply LINE is embedded in daily digital life.

Dean Jones, Vice President Commercial, East Asia & Pacific at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said the launch reflects the company’s commitment to meeting guests where they already spend their time. He described platforms such as LINE as woven into everyday life in Asia and said IHG wants to make it easier for guests to discover, book and experience its brands through trusted digital channels.

Rita Jiang, Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer for Greater China at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said guests in Thailand and Taiwan are deeply embedded in the LINE ecosystem. She described the launch as part of IHG’s push to deliver a mobile-first and frictionless experience.

To support the launch, IHG One Rewards is introducing a series of member-focused campaigns throughout August. These include gamified experiences, targeted promotions, LINE Points earning opportunities and exclusive member-only activities.

In Thailand, IHG will also launch limited-edition travel-inspired LINE stickers created by popular illustrator duo Sundae Kids, known for their warm and relatable comics about everyday life.

The LINE MINI App expansion sits alongside other digital initiatives from IHG, including AI-powered conversational search and broader investment in digital channels across the guest journey. Together, these efforts point to a hotel booking environment where loyalty, personalisation and convenience are becoming increasingly interconnected.

IHG’s wider portfolio includes 21 hotel brands, more than one million rooms and hotels in over 100 countries, supported by a development pipeline of around 2,400 properties. Its IHG One Rewards programme has more than 160 million members worldwide.

For IHG, the LINE MINI App is not simply another booking channel. It is a way to place the brand inside a daily digital habit, making travel planning feel less separate from the platforms guests already use for communication, payments, content and lifestyle services.

For travellers in Thailand and Taiwan, the result is a more direct path from inspiration to booking. A hotel search, loyalty check or member offer can now sit inside the same digital environment they may already open many times a day.
