First UK Bus donates Advertising Space on Buses to Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘Go Sober’ Fundraising Campaign

Aberdeen, Scotland, 2013-10-10 — /travelprnews.com/ — First UK Bus and its national charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support, have joined forces to encourage people to give up alcohol during October and raise money to help people affected by cancer across the UK.

First has donated £81,000 worth of advertising space on buses across the UK to promote Macmillan’s new ‘Go Sober for October’ fundraising campaign, that will see thousands of people going sober throughout the month of October to raise money for Macmillan.

Buses in Glasgow, Scotland East, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and Sheffield will have the ‘Go Sober for October’ message on their sides and rears.

Katie Smart, FirstGroup’s CSR & Community Manger, said: “We are delighted to help Macmillan raise funds that will mean it can continue to provide vital support to people affected by cancer across the UK.  The ‘Go Sober’ fundraising campaign message will appear on 400 buses across the UK and will be seen by millions of customers and the general public.”

She continued: “In 2012 our workforce overwhelmingly voted for Macmillan as our national charity partner. So far FirstGroup and our staff have raised more than £500,000 in cash and kind for Macmillan.  We hope our partnership with Macmillan and the advertising on our buses will mean that more people will be inspired to fundraise, and will enable us to signpost people to Macmillan’s fantastic services.”

Sally Hill, Corporate Account Manager, Macmillan Cancer Support said: “We are very grateful for the donation of advertising space to promote our ‘Go Sober for October’ fundraising campaign. The number of people with cancer is growing every day. Macmillan wants to reach and improve the lives of every one of those people. By being part of Go Sober, FirstGroup is helping Macmillan in providing practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care.”
