(NEWS) NEW YORK, New York, United States, 2026-Sep-02 — /Travel PR News/ — Crowne Plaza by IHG has opened a 685-room flagship in Manhattan’s Times Square, giving the premium hotel brand a high-profile showcase for its effort to serve travellers who increasingly combine business, leisure and personal time within the same trip.
The Crowne Plaza Manhattan Times Square occupies a 22-story building at 790 Seventh Avenue in Midtown. The property was developed by Al Rayyan Tourism Investment Company (ARTIC) and is managed by Highgate. According to details released by IHG Hotels & Resorts, the building was originally constructed for the 1964 New York World’s Fair and has now been reworked around Crowne Plaza’s current “New Modern” design approach.
The location puts guests close to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, the Broadway theatre district and Central Park, while IHG’s current hotel listing also highlights Radio City Music Hall, the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Broadway among nearby attractions. The same listing confirms free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour fitness centre and pet-friendly accommodation as part of the newly renovated property.
A flagship designed around blended trips
Rather than separating work and leisure into distinct parts of the hotel, the redesign brings them together across guest rooms, social areas, dining and small-group meeting spaces. IHG says that approach is intended for guests whose itineraries can move between meetings, meals, sightseeing and downtime over the course of a single stay.
The lobby incorporates flexible areas for informal work and socialising, while The Studio provides a more private setting for small teams. IHG’s property page describes The Studio as a 200-square-foot lobby-level boardroom designed for groups of up to 10 people. A dedicated Meetings & Events Concierge is also available for business travellers and groups using the hotel’s event spaces.
Food and beverage is anchored by Fifty-First Street Social, a full-service American restaurant and bar located off the lobby with its own street entrance. The venue serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, while a 24/7 Marketplace provides grab-and-go food, drinks and travel essentials for guests moving through the hotel at different times of day.
Crowne Plaza is also bringing its wider brand programming into the property. Weekly Socials are intended to connect hotel guests and local visitors through destination-inspired food and drink, while Daily Rituals focus on morning and evening routines, including wellness-oriented touches and sleep-related recommendations.
Skyline rooms, suites and a Broadway penthouse
The redesign extends to the upper part of the hotel through the Manhattan Level, where redesigned rooms and suites look across Midtown. IHG’s current property information identifies the Manhattan Level on the 18th floor and positions it as an upgraded option for executive trips, special occasions and guests looking for a quieter, more residential-style stay above the city.
The most distinctive accommodation is the Broadway Suite on the 22nd floor. The penthouse includes an expansive terrace and is being positioned for milestone stays, celebrations and special occasions.
Across the 685 guestrooms, the refresh adds dedicated work areas and updated interiors intended to work equally well for business use and downtime. Locally inspired artwork appears throughout the property, including large-scale murals by Brazilian-born, Atlanta-based artist Tiago Magro.
New York opening marks a wider Crowne Plaza reset
The Manhattan debut arrives as Crowne Plaza continues a broader renovation and expansion programme. IHG says half of the brand’s global estate is now new or recently renovated. Crowne Plaza currently has more than 400 hotels open worldwide and a pipeline of nearly 150 properties.
The brand expects to add more than 36,000 rooms in the coming years, which IHG says would increase Crowne Plaza’s global footprint by more than 35 percent. The Times Square flagship therefore serves not only as a New York opening but as a physical statement of how the brand wants future properties to combine social spaces, flexible work settings, food and beverage, wellness touches and upgraded accommodation.
Ginger Taggart, Vice President, Brand Management – Global Premium Brands at IHG Hotels & Resorts, described the opening as a “defining moment for the brand” and said the hotel represents Crowne Plaza’s vision for the future of blended travel.
For ARTIC, the project also reinforces its longer-term investment in the US hospitality market. Tarek M. El Sayed, the company’s Managing Director and CEO, said the redevelopment was intended to preserve the building’s character while improving its design, functionality and guest experience, adding that the United States remains a key market for the investment company.
