MUNICH, GERMANY, 2016-Nov-27 — /Travel PR News/ — With the opening of this year’s edition of the ever-popular Christmas and Winter Market last Saturday, the seasonal scents of gingerbread and mulled wine are again wafting over the Forum in the Munich Airport Center (MAC). For the 18th consecutive year, the big covered space between the terminals has been transformed into a winter wonderland. More than 40 stands, situated amid 450 real Christmas trees, are offering seasonal treats and local handicrafts. And at the center is the market’s perennial highlight: the 600 square meter ice rink, open to skaters and all comers ready to take a shot at Eisstockschiessen, as Bavaria’s broom-free version of curling is known. Skating is free of charge and rental skates are available at rinkside for a small fee.
A stage program with a wide variety of acts will keep visitors entertained every day from 11 am until 9 pm. A change this year: for the first time, the stands with snacks and refreshments will remain open until 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. That’s with the exception of Christmas Eve (December 24th), when all of the stands and the airport’s shops are open only until 5.00 p.m.
Daily except Mondays, from 6 pm onward, a wide range of live musical acts, including jazz, swing, gospel, rock and pop bands, will create a festive atmosphere. And for the skaters, a DJ will take the stage every Thursday at 6 pm with a perfect playlist for a winter evening on the ice. For figure skating fans, a special event is scheduled for Saturday, November 26: Starting at 4 pm, Germany’s top figure skaters will be showing off their best loops, lutzes and axles.
The Christmas and Winter Market will close on December 30. For the full program of this year’s market, visit
