(NEWS) PARIS, France, 2026-Sep-16 — /Travel PR News/ — Capella Hotel Group has placed three properties in the top 50 of the 2026 edition of The 50 Best Hotels, led by Capella Bangkok at No.2, while two additional Capella properties appeared in the extended 51-100 ranking.
The results, announced in Paris on 15 September, give the Singapore-based hotel group one of its broadest showings in the ranking to date. Capella Bangkok finished immediately behind Rosewood Hong Kong, which retained the No.1 position. Capella Sydney ranked No.16 and was named Best Hotel in Oceania for a second consecutive year, while Patina Osaka entered the list at No.33 and received the Nikka Best New Hotel Award.
The group also secured two places in the ranking’s extended list. Capella Hanoi entered at No.81, while Capella Singapore returned at No.97. The 51-100 list was introduced as an extension of the main ranking and is determined by the same voting body.
Bangkok and Sydney build on previous appearances
Capella Bangkok’s No.2 position continues a strong run in the awards. The 101-suite-and-villa riverside hotel was ranked No.1 in 2024 and has now appeared in the list for three consecutive years. Set on the Chao Phraya River, the property combines low-rise accommodation with direct river views and a location close to Bangkok’s historic Charoenkrung district.
Capella Sydney, meanwhile, has now appeared in the top 50 for two consecutive years and retained its regional title as Best Hotel in Oceania. The 192-room hotel occupies Sydney’s restored former Department of Education building in the city’s Sandstone Precinct, combining the original heritage architecture with contemporary interiors and a collection of more than 1,400 artworks.
Patina Osaka makes its first appearance
The most significant new entry for the group is Patina Osaka, the first Japanese property from Patina Hotels & Resorts. The hotel opened in May 2025 and has entered the 2026 list at No.33, alongside receiving the Nikka Best New Hotel Award.
The 20-storey property has 221 rooms and suites and overlooks Osaka Castle Park and Naniwa-no-miya Park. Its design is built around the Japanese idea of kisetsukan, or seasonal awareness, with extensive use of natural materials and views intended to connect the interiors with the changing landscape outside.
Five properties across the top 100
Capella Hotel Group president Roland Fasel said the five-property showing reflected consistency across both the Capella and Patina brands, highlighting the repeat appearances of the Bangkok and Sydney hotels and the speed with which Patina Osaka has established itself since opening.
The wider Capella Hotel Group portfolio is also expanding. Patina Tianjin is scheduled to introduce the Patina brand in China by the end of 2026, while Capella Nanjing is also listed for a 2026 opening. Capella Diriyah in Riyadh is planned for 2027 and will mark the Capella brand’s entry into the Middle East.
The 2026 edition is the fourth year of The 50 Best Hotels programme. According to the organiser, the ranking is compiled from votes cast by more than 800 anonymous members of The 50 Best Hotels Academy, including hoteliers, travel journalists, educators and experienced luxury travellers. The top-50 list was revealed through a live countdown at Les Salles du Carrousel in Paris.
