2012-10-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Heathrow Express team has been recognised as being among the best in the railway industry at the Rail Staff Awards hosted at the ICC in Birmingham on Saturday night.

Heathrow Express, which runs services every 15 minutes between Heathrow and London Paddington, fielded 8 finalists in 15 categories against industry giants such as Network Rail, Balfour Beatty and Travel for London.

From a field of 14 finalists, Cheryle Cowell, train driver for Heathrow Express won the category of ‘Rail Person of the Year’.

To win this prestigious award, voted for by the public, the individual must have shown true dedication or have remained calm and collected under incredible pressure or danger.

Cheryle has worked as a train driver for Heathrow Express for over seven years and was nominated by colleague, Glauco Hugentobler Ayres who had his shifts at work covered by his team mates so he could care for his terminally ill mother. Cheryle coordinated the effort and was described by Glauco as being ‘a very professional train driver, with a work ethic second to none‘ and ‘an example to others and a great human being‘.

Pauline Paterson, who has worked at Heathrow Express for 13 years, was narrowly pipped to the post in the category of ‘Trainer of the Year’. Responsible for training the majority of the customer facing staff at Heathrow Express, Pauline is part of the team who works everyday to deliver a train service with 99% reliability for passengers travelling to and from Heathrow.

Heathrow Express Deputy Operations Manager, Spencer Adaway, was also a runner-up, this time for the Rail Manager of the year Award. He successfully led the Heathrow Express operation for the 2012 Games and his nomination reflects his ‘superlative work ethic, an unrivalled and incessant devotion to customer service and an ability to deliver effective results through numerous noteworthy initiatives and significant projects.’

Keith Greenfield, Managing Director of Heathrow Express, said:

‘On behalf of everyone at Heathrow Express, I’d like to congratulate all of our nominees. They reflect the professionalism of our staff, all of whom are dedicated to giving our passengers a first-class experience. I am proud to say that I have the best staff in the industry.’
