KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The 11th 100 Km BDN Challenge will take place on October 11, 2026, on a five-kilometre circuit along Badalona’s seafront.
  • Participants can enter 100 km or 50 km individual races, relay formats, or a flexible-distance option of up to 49 km.
  • The main race starts at 7:30 a.m., and competitors in the 100 km event have up to 14 hours to finish.
  • The event benefits AFANOC, which supports children undergoing cancer treatment and their families.

Badalona will turn its seafront into an endurance-running circuit on October 11 as the 100 Km BDN Challenge returns for its 11th edition, bringing individual and relay racing together with fundraising for AFANOC, a nonprofit that supports children undergoing cancer treatment and their families.

According to an official update from Badalona City Council, the race is open to both amateur and professional athletes. Entrants can compete individually or as part of a relay team, with team members able to divide the distance between them.

A five-kilometre waterfront circuit

The route will once again use Badalona’s Passeig Marítim. Runners will start near La Donzella de la Costa and head toward Montgat before turning near the bridge opposite Skate Agora, continuing toward Port de Badalona and then returning to the starting area.

The circuit is five kilometres long, meaning competitors tackling the full 100 km distance will complete 20 laps. The maximum time allowed for the 100 km event is 14 hours.

Solo, relay and flexible-distance options

Organisers are offering several ways to take part:

  • 100 km individual
  • 50 km individual
  • 100 km relay teams of two to five participants
  • 100 km relay teams of two to 10 participants
  • 50 km relay teams of two to five participants
  • Flexible distance, up to a maximum of 49 km

The scheduled start is 7:30 a.m. Participants choosing the flexible-distance format do not have to begin at that time. Registration is priced at €35 and, according to the city, includes the race bib and a runner bag with a sweatshirt and gifts from event partners. Entries are available through the 9hSports race page.

Sport tied to a charitable cause

Badalona City Council describes the event as a fully charitable project benefiting AFANOC. The organisation assists children in cancer treatment and their families, including by providing accommodation and free psychological support for families who have to travel away from home for treatment and have limited resources.

People who want to support the cause without running can contribute through the event’s Fila 0 donation option. The city also lists a race T-shirt for €20 and socks for €15.

The official presentation of this year’s edition brought together Badalona’s third deputy mayor Rosa del Amo, deputy sports councillor Juan José Portillo, Centre Comercial Montigalà manager Desirée López, AFANOC treasurer Josep Cruz and race director David Neira. Del Amo said the city’s support reflects the event’s combination of sport and solidarity and its focus on children and young people undergoing cancer treatment, as well as the needs of their families.
