Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort has added a family-travel title to a three-year run of honours from Travel Trade Maldives, winning Best Family Resort at the TTM Awards 2026 after previously taking awards for diving and beach experiences.

The recognition gives the Baa Atoll property its third consecutive TTM accolade. It was named Best Dive Resort in 2024 and Best Beach Resort in 2025, creating an unusually broad sequence of awards that reflects how the resort is positioning itself beyond a single Maldives niche. This year’s result shifts the focus to multigenerational holidays and the practical facilities that can make an island stay workable for parents, younger children and teenagers at the same time.

The award was presented during the Travel Trade Maldives Awards & Gala 2026 at CROSSROADS Maldives on 27 August. The ceremony concluded the tenth edition of TTM Maldives and recognised hospitality achievements across 32 categories. Travel Trade Maldives said the wider 2026 event brought together more than 650 travel professionals and over 130 properties, with more than 3,000 pre-scheduled business meetings, while the gala itself drew more than 600 attendees.

Family facilities move to the centre of the resort proposition

Set within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, Avani+ Fares Maldives has 176 pavilions, beach villas, overwater villas and residences. Its accommodation mix includes interconnecting rooms as well as larger two- and three-bedroom overwater residences with private pools and shared living areas, giving extended families and groups options beyond the traditional one-villa Maldives stay.

The resort has also built a substantial part of its family offer around age-specific spaces. AvaniKids is open to children aged two and above and combines indoor play and arts-and-crafts areas with outdoor facilities including a splash park, pirate ship and zipline. The resort provides two hours of complimentary supervised babysitting each day for children aged two to 11, a benefit designed to give parents some independent time without adding another daily activity cost.

Teenagers have a separate, round-the-clock club with gaming stations, karaoke, movies and social spaces, while younger guests can use Petit Bistro, a dedicated kids-only restaurant that also hosts cooking activities. The separation of facilities by age group is significant for a resort targeting multigenerational travel, where the needs of a preschool child, a teenager and accompanying adults can be very different despite sharing the same holiday.

Family activities extend beyond the clubs. The resort promotes snorkelling on its house reef, sunset fishing, water sports, diving, wellness sessions and beach games as experiences families can share. It also uses visiting specialists and seasonal programming to broaden the offer; former England footballer Michael Owen is scheduled to return from 14 to 17 October 2026 for the third edition of his Kids’ Football Camp at the resort.

A third award broadens Avani+ Fares’ Maldives identity

Judd Rabbidge, General Manager of Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort, said the latest award reflected the team’s aim to create holidays that work for every member of a family, citing purpose-built spaces for children and teenagers, flexible accommodation and experiences designed to be shared across generations.

The progression from Best Dive Resort to Best Beach Resort and now Best Family Resort gives Avani+ Fares a wider marketing story than a conventional single-category award. In a destination where resorts frequently compete on beaches, reefs and overwater accommodation, family infrastructure has become another important point of differentiation, particularly for parents looking for both shared activities and supervised time apart.

For Avani Hotels & Resorts, part of Minor Hotels, the award also reinforces the role of the Maldives property within a portfolio that now spans more than 40 Avani hotels and resorts across five continents. At Fares, the challenge will be to keep the family proposition distinctive while retaining the marine and beach strengths recognised by the resort’s previous two TTM wins.
