Austrian Airlines facebook channel has just exceeded 200,000 fans

• More than 70,000 extra Facebook fans in 2013 – average of 5,800 new fans a month, or 1,500 a week
• Number of Twitter followers doubles to 18,000 members in 2013

Vienna, Austria, 2014-1-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Austrian Facebook channel just keeps soaring higher and higher – and has now exceeded 200,000 fans. The Austrian national carrier succeeded in winning more than 70,000 extra followers in 2013, which adds up to 5,800 extra fans a month, or nearly 1,500 fans a week on average. With more than 80,000 interactions in the year 2013, the Austrian Facebook community is particularly active.

Bernd Hartweger, Head of Product and Marketing at Austrian Airlines, is pleased about the huge popularity of Austrian’s social media channels: “Facebook gives us the opportunity to intensify the level of contact with our fans. 200,000 fans are both acknowledgement and obligation at the same time, and show that our dialogue with customers is really working. On the one hand, we can offer insights into the exciting world of Austrian Airlines on our social media channels; on the other, we can use the platforms to listen to our customers, and subsequently learn from these.”

Last year wasn’t all about Facebook, however: Austrian also succeeded in posting a sharp increase in its number of Twitter followers. More than 18,000 members now regularly follow the short messaging service of Austrian Airlines, the equivalent of a doubling of the figure for 2013.

An open ear for the community
Fans and followers alike can use Facebook and the other social media channels to send their wishes, suggestions and complaints directly to Austrian Airlines. The Austrian national carrier can then react promptly, supply its fan community with the latest information regarding flight operations, offer behind-the-scenes views at the airline, and request opinions from its users – by participating in votes, the Facebook community can make its feelings clear on a range of issues. The Facebook activities of Austrian Airlines are rounded off by attractive competitions.
