(NEWS) FORT WORTH, TX / NEW YORK, NY, United States, 2026-Aug-3 — /Travel PR News/ — American Airlines, Citi and Mastercard are updating the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard, adding new travel and lifestyle benefits aimed at frequent American Airlines customers who want more from a premium co-branded card than miles alone.
The refreshed card is being positioned around airport access, faster AAdvantage status progress and benefits that extend into hotels, car rentals, vacation packages and everyday travel planning. According to details released by American Airlines, Citi and Mastercard, cardmembers can now unlock up to $2,300 in value, including Admirals Club membership and a faster path toward AAdvantage status.
The lounge benefit remains one of the card’s clearest differentiators. The Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard continues to be the only card that includes Admirals Club membership, giving primary cardmembers unlimited visits, with access for up to two guests or immediate family members. The lounge network includes more than 100 Admirals Club and partner lounges worldwide.
That matters in a premium travel market where airport experience has become a larger part of the loyalty conversation. For many frequent travellers, lounge access, priority airport services, checked-bag benefits and disruption protections can be as valuable as earning miles, particularly on busy domestic and international routes.
The card refresh adds several new or enhanced statement credits. Cardmembers can receive up to $500 back each calendar year on eligible American Airlines Vacations purchases, up to $100 back on inflight and eligible Admirals Club purchases, and up to $180 in Lyft credits annually after taking three eligible rides in a calendar month.
Earning potential is also being increased. The card now offers 12X AAdvantage miles on eligible AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings, up from 10X. It also introduces expanded Loyalty Point milestones, allowing cardmembers to earn 10,000 bonus Loyalty Points after reaching 50,000, 90,000, 165,000 and 240,000 Loyalty Points in the same status qualification year. That raises the possible annual bonus to 40,000 Loyalty Points.
The wider travel package now includes additional hotel and car rental benefits. Primary cardmembers can enrol in Omni Hotels & Resorts’ Select Guest programme and receive automatic Champion status, which includes benefits such as early check-in, late check-out and room upgrades, subject to availability. They can also earn one Omni Free Night reward each calendar year after completing a qualifying stay of two or more consecutive nights booked directly with Omni.
For car rentals, eligible primary cardmembers can enrol for complimentary Avis President’s Club status through August 31, 2028. The benefit includes features such as car upgrades, expedited service at major airports and complimentary additional drivers.
Existing card benefits continue to form a major part of the proposition. Cardmembers earn 4X AAdvantage miles on eligible American Airlines purchases, with the rate increasing to 5X for the remainder of the calendar year after $150,000 in purchases. They also earn 1X AAdvantage miles on other purchases.
Other continuing benefits include up to $120 back each calendar year on eligible prepaid Avis and Budget rentals, up to $120 every four years toward Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fees, the first checked bag free on eligible domestic American Airlines itineraries for the primary cardmember and up to eight companions, priority check-in, priority screening where available, priority boarding and no foreign transaction fees.
The card also includes travel protections such as trip delay protection, trip cancellation and interruption protection, worldwide car rental insurance and lost baggage protection. Through Mastercard’s World Legend tier and The Mastercard Collection, cardmembers can also access restaurant reservations, premium ticketing and cultural, culinary and entertainment experiences.
The Admirals Club element remains closely tied to American’s wider premium strategy. The airline says it offers more premium lounges than any other U.S. carrier and is continuing to expand and rework its lounge network. Recent and planned updates include a new Admirals Club lounge at Philadelphia, new or reimagined lounges at Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, Washington, D.C., Austin and Nashville, refreshed culinary offerings, enhanced complimentary options such as Lavazza coffee, and the Provisions by Admirals Club grab-and-go concept.
The enhanced Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard will be available to new cardmembers with a $695 annual fee starting August 23, 2026. Authorized user pricing will be $175 for up to three authorized users and $175 for each additional authorized user after that.
For American Airlines, the card update reinforces the role of AAdvantage as more than a mileage programme. It is increasingly a broader travel platform, connecting flights, lounges, hotels, car rentals, vacations, rideshare credits and premium experiences.
For travellers, the value will depend on how often they fly American, use Admirals Club lounges, pursue AAdvantage status and make use of the partner benefits. But the direction is clear: premium airline cards are being built less around a single headline perk and more around the full journey, from airport access to status progress and travel services beyond the flight itself.
The refresh also builds on American Airlines’ wider relationship with Mastercard. In 2025, the two companies renewed their long-standing collaboration, making Mastercard the sole payments network for all AAdvantage co-branded credit cards. That agreement reinforced nearly four decades of partnership and placed greater emphasis on personalised offers, secure payments, data-led rewards and access to Mastercard Priceless Experiences.
Seen in that context, the updated Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard is not only a card refresh, but part of a broader strategy to make AAdvantage more connected across the travel journey. Lounge access, status progress, hotel and rental car benefits, lifestyle credits and exclusive experiences all point to the same direction: premium airline loyalty is increasingly being shaped around convenience, recognition and access before, during and after the flight.
