All Nippon Airways the first Japanese airline to sign the “Buckingham Palace Declaration” on the illegal trade in wildlife

TOKYO, Japan, 2018-Mar-21 — /Travel PR News/ — All Nippon Airways (ANA), became the first Japanese airline that has signed the United for Wildlife (UFW) “Buckingham Palace Declaration”(*1) on the illegal trade in wildlife on March 13, 2018.

Total 48 airlines, as well as a number of other aviation stakeholders have signed up to the declaration, thus underlining the aviation industry’s commitment to sustainability.

At this time, ANA will implement the following activities:

  • Increase passenger, customer, client, and staff awareness about the nature, scale, and consequences of the illegal wildlife trade.
  • Partner with airports, freight forwarders and other stakeholders to work proactively with enforcement agencies and conservation organizations to address the problem.
  • Consider the adoption of appropriate policies and procedures to discourage trafficking.

With this commitment, ANA intends to strengthen efforts to prohibit the transport of illegal wildlife and products and contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (* 2).

* 1 Buckingham Palace Declaration
The” United for Wildlife “, created by The Royal Foundation of The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge & Prince Harry, invited representatives of the transport industry to Buckingham Palace to pledge their support.
The IATA (*3) 72nd AGM in Dublin 2016 unanimously endorsed a Resolution denouncing the illegal trade in wildlife and wildlife products and pledging to partner with government authorities and conservation organizations in the fight against traffickers of endangered species.
Not only the transport sector but also strong support is perceived from several government agencies such as the World Customs Organization (WTO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Washington Convention (the treaty on international trade in endangered species of wild animals and plants).
