2012-07-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield (DSA) and the largest low-fare airline in Central and Eastern Europe are celebrating as figures show more than 1 million passengers have flown from DSA with Wizz Air since September 2006.

Since starting at DSA with just three weekly services to Katowice, Poland, Wizz Air now operate 18 flights per week to offer six destinations, including Vilnius in Lithuania and Gdansk, Warsaw, Katowice, Poznan and Wroclaw in Poland.

Football fans recently took advantage of the airline’s low-cost flights from the airport to host cities across Poland for Euro 2012.

Steve Gill, Doncaster Sheffield Airport director said: “We are delighted more than 1 million people have travelled from the airport with Wizz Air. The popularity of services to Central and Eastern Europe have exceeded our expectations and are a real success story, which is fantastic.

“There is a significant Central and Eastern European population in the Yorkshire and North Midlands region dating back to the 1940s and we’re always looking to broaden the choice of destinations to this part of the world.”

Wizz Air have also recently celebrated their 8th birthday and have quickly established themselves as one of Europe’s leading low cost airlines, carrying over 11.2 million people last year, 15 per cent more than the previous year.

Daniel de Carvalho, Corporate Communications Manager of Wizz Air, added: “We are thrilled to have reached such a milestone of passenger numbers from Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Our Yorkshire routes are increasingly popular with business travellers and tourists alike. We pride ourselves on delivering great customer service combined with very low fares.”
