Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) will bring its AdventureELEVATE Latin America gathering to Chiapas, Mexico, from 18 to 20 May 2027, placing one of the country’s most ecologically and culturally distinctive regions at the centre of a three-day programme for adventure travel professionals.

The event will combine education, business development and destination immersion, with attendees moving between keynote and learning sessions, pre-scheduled Marketplace meetings, networking opportunities and a dedicated Day of Adventure. Registration is already open through the official AdventureELEVATE Latin America 2027 event page, with early-access pricing available until 17 September 2026.

Chiapas moves into the adventure travel spotlight

For ATTA, the choice of Chiapas is closely tied to the region’s mix of nature, cultural heritage and community-based tourism. The association says the state contains roughly 30 percent of Mexico’s biodiversity across 16 protected natural areas, while its event materials highlight cloud forests, waterfalls, Maya heritage and locally rooted tourism experiences as part of the destination’s appeal.

Independent biodiversity research also underscores the scale of that natural diversity. Mexico’s National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity identifies Chiapas as one of the country’s leading states for recorded species richness and notes that the state contains 11 ecoregions, the highest ecoregional diversity in Mexico, according to the official Chiapas biodiversity study.

Among the landscapes expected to shape the wider destination experience is the Selva Lacandona, the rainforest region that includes the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve. Federal environmental authorities describe the Lacandon Jungle as one of the most biologically diverse parts of tropical America, with habitat for species including jaguars and scarlet macaws.

ATTA’s destination overview also points to Las Tzimoleras, known for waterfalls, natural pools and canyoning; the Arco del Tiempo, which the association describes as the world’s tallest natural rock arch and a destination reached through jungle trekking and rappelling; and the whitewater of the Río Lacanjá. The programme’s regional framing also draws attention to Maya sites including Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilán.

A three-day industry programme built around place

AdventureELEVATE is ATTA’s annual regional education and networking conference for adventure travel professionals. The association expects roughly 250 participants, including tour operators, destination representatives, travel media, photographers and other industry practitioners.

The 2027 agenda begins on Tuesday, 18 May with the Day of Adventure and an opening reception. Wednesday and Thursday will feature keynotes, Marketplace sessions, networking lunches and additional learning, with content focused on areas such as business, technology, marketing, operations and wider travel trends. ATTA’s published overview also identifies dedicated networking formats including Marketplace and the D.N.A. session.

The structure reflects a longstanding feature of AdventureELEVATE: delegates do not only discuss a destination in conference rooms, but are given time to experience the host region directly. In Chiapas, that format creates an opportunity for tourism businesses and media to encounter products and communities that remain less represented on mainstream international itineraries.

Early registration window now open

ATTA says early-access pricing for AdventureELEVATE Latin America 2027 remains available through 17 September 2026, after which rates will increase. The event page describes the current offer as the lowest available registration price for the 2027 gathering.

The Chiapas edition also fits a broader industry interest in dispersing adventure tourism beyond established circuits and creating stronger commercial links between local suppliers, destination organisations, tour operators and media. For the host region, the event provides international trade exposure; for delegates, it offers a closer look at a destination where conservation, living culture and community-led tourism are closely interconnected.
