Advancing Cancer Research: Four Seasons Hotel Toronto Aims to Reach CAD 9 Million Mark at 2012 Wilket Creek Park Terry Fox Run as Part of Continuing Global Commitment to the Cause

More than 350 corporate and hotel employees will participate in September 16 event in Toronto.

Toronto, Canada 2012-09-12 — /travelprnews.com/ — Four Seasons hotels and resorts around the world are participating in Terry Fox Runs and other fundraising initiatives again this year, marking more than three decades of commitment to cancer research.

Every year, Four Seasons Hotel Toronto and the company’s corporate head office in Toronto organize one of the city’s Terry Fox Runs. At this year’s event at Wilket Creek Park on Sunday, September 16, 350 employees and their families will volunteer by registering runners, serving barbecue and helping with the children’s play area. Last year’s event raised more than CAD 460,000, and to date, more than CAD 8.5 million has been raised through this run alone, and every dollar has gone directly to the Terry Fox Foundation.

“In the more than 30 years since Terry made his heroic run across Canada, there have been many advances in cancer research, but the battle is not over yet,” says Isadore Sharp, founder and chairman of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. “The Terry Fox Run reminds us that each of us can make a difference, especially when we join together toward a common goal.”

This year, popular CityTV personality Gord Martineau hosts as master of ceremonies and introduces Isadore Sharp to kick off the event. Participants, volunteers and their families will enjoy entertainment by actress/singer Sheila McCarthy and actress/comedian Debra McGrath, and up and coming performers The Honeyrunners, Mike Celia, and The Treasures, plus a highland dance show by the Jillian Rose Group.

The Marathon of Hope Continues

Terry Fox inspired Canadians with his 1980 Marathon of Hope before succumbing to the disease the following year. To date, more than CAD 600 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name through the annual Terry Fox Run, held across Canada and around the world.

Commitment to Advancing Cancer Research

The commitment of Four Seasons to cancer research began in 1980, when Four Seasons Founder and Chairman Isadore Sharp initiated a corporate fundraising challenge for Terry’s campaign. The following year, Four Seasons organized the first ever Terry Fox Run in support of cancer research, in his memory.

What began as a single event has now grown to every location in which Four Seasons operates. As part of its unwavering global commitment to the cause, Four Seasons hotels and resorts around the world host, sponsor and participate in countless events to benefit both the Terry Fox Foundation and local cancer research and care facilities.
