World Design Capital 2014 Cape Town: 5-star Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa partners with Coffeebeans Routes to offer exclusive ‘Live Design, Transform Life’ package

Based on the four key themes of African Innovation, Beautiful Things, Today for Tomorrow, and Bridging the Divides, the four-day itinerary with a private guide sets out to showcase Cape Town’s top design attractions and interventions, and some of its award-winning restaurants. It also includes a four-night stay at Leading Hotels of the World member The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, starting off with free time to explore the facilities and enjoy the 5-star service which won the hotel the top spot as Cape Town’s No. 1 Hotel in the 2013 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Travel Awards (USA). Guests may wish to book a relaxing treatment at The Spa, before enjoying a fine dining experience in Azure Restaurant, where Executive Chef Christo Pretorius creates culinary delights overlooking a breathtaking Atlantic Ocean setting, whilst a relaxing movie in the hotel’s very own in-house cinema may round off the first evening in style.

Focusing on How design shaped our past on Day 2, a private guide will take guests from the foot of Lion’s Head via the District Six Museum to the Slave Lodge and the Oranjezicht City Farm, which has been officially selected as a World Design Capital project. Following lunch at Dear Me restaurant, the afternoon is spent in Langa, Cape Town’s first township, exploring art at the Maboneng Township Arts Experience, an official World Design Capital project that turns township homes into art galleries. Maboneng is at the heart of the Langa Quarter, another official World Design Capital project seeking to position Langa as one of the new centres of the city. The day concludes with dinner at the award-winning Test Kitchen restaurant in Cape Town’s trendy design hub Woodstock.

On day 3 participants will spend time exploring How design is shaping the present. The morning is spent exploring the city’s art world with one of its leading artists, John Bauer, as well as Kelvin Cochrane, initiator of the ‘Grassy Park’ Wetlands project. The tour then stops at the V&A Waterfront for lunch at Mondiall, Relais & Châteaux Grand Chef Peter Tempelhoff’s hot new dining destination, before returning to Woodstock to explore the creative developments the Old Biscuit Mill, the Woodstock Exchange and Side Street Studios. Guests will also be able to admire the wealth of street art in the area, and meet with up-and-coming designers.

Day 4 takes in a different topic, Wine by Design. The tour will take participants to the wine region of Cape Town, visiting estates who have introduced bold design interventions to transform the industry socially, culturally and environmentally. Tastings in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch include stops at Babylonstoren and Spier Wine Estate, which has one of the most extensive art collections in the country; and the Solms Delta Wine Estate, where lunch at the Fyndraai Restaurant highlights the local cuisine of the region.

The morning of the last day is spent connecting with fashion and future tech designers in their centrally located studios and boutiques before the whistle-stop design tour of Cape Town concludes with lunch at hip restaurant and design shop, Hemelhuijs.
