Winnipeg Airports Authority Q1: Traffic at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport increased 2.86% as compared to the first quarter of 2015

WINNIPEG, CANADA, 2016-Apr-27 — /Travel PR News/ — First quarter passenger traffic at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport increased 2.86% as compared to the first quarter of 2015. Consolidated revenue of Winnipeg Airports Authority and its subsidiaries was $29.6 million for the first quarter, compared to $28.1 million for the same period in 2015. Earnings before interest, depreciation and taxes were $14.7 million, compared to $14.4 million for the same period in 2015.

“Our team takes great pride in serving the region by offering excellent services within the airport and increasing the number of direct destinations available to travellers from our region,” said Barry Rempel, President and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “With rising passenger traffic, we are focused on providing airport customers with a comfortable atmosphere, exceptional airport services, and high quality concessions.”

With an ongoing desire to improve the passenger experience, the first quarter saw the completion of a new lineup of restaurants beyond passenger screening at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. On the domestic and international side, new restaurants include Freshii, True Burger, Prairie Bistro and Skylights Lounge. Those travelling to the United States can dine at UrbanCrave, which features a newly extended bar area with additional seating. The new restaurants have been well received by travellers and airport campus staff alike.

In addition to airport terminal service enhancements, travellers were also pleased to learn that in addition to the new non-stop services to London, England, there will also be another new non-stop direct flight from Winnipeg. Operating seasonally, WestJet will fly four times weekly to Halifax, Nova Scotia beginning July 2, 2016. Halifax is a welcome addition to Winnipeg Richardson International Airport’s route map and facilitates travel to eastern Canada from the Manitoba region. This brings to 55 the number of non-stop destinations available from Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.
