Whistler Blackcomb hosts 32nd Peak to Valley Race, presented by Smirnoff on February 19 and 20

WHISTLER, BC, 2016-Feb-15 — /Travel PR News/ — The quad-burning Peak to Valley Race, presented by Smirnoff, is set to return to Whistler Mountain on February 19 and 20. The Peak to Valley Race is the longest race of its kind in the world and is now in its 32nd year. This year, the course will follow the classic route, weather permitting, from The Saddle, going down Old Man, into Franz’s, ending right outside of Dusty’s Bar and BBQ in Creekside. The course totals 5.6 kilometres, with a vertical drop of 1,443 metres and around 180 gates.

Cate Webster, Events Project Supervisor at Whistler Blackcomb, has been with the race from the beginning. She had a quilt made of the various Peak to Valley t-shirts over the years and will be tending to race details throughout the event again this year.

“This race has an amazing way of bringing locals together,” says Webster. “There are people that participate every year; some teams use the Peak to Valley race as an opportunity for old friends to catch up. With long runs, personal goals and skiing camaraderie, it really is in the spirit of Whistler.”

Racers enter in four-person teams which have to include at least one female and may include no more than one professional racer. A team’s category is determined by the cumulative age of its members, everyone must be over 19 years old. Two teammates run on Friday and two on Saturday starting with the oldest members of the group.

Smirnoff and Whistler Blackcomb are sponsoring prizing for the Peak to Valley racers, including a $1,000 door prize and jackets for first place in each category. Smirnoff is also hosting an après on the patio at Dusty’s with DJ Foxy Moron on Friday.

The Peak to Valley Race organizers are looking for volunteer gatekeepers. To sign up, please call 604-905-2034.
