VOLUNTEERS ON THEIR MARKS FOR LONDON 2012

2012-07-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — The excitement is mounting as the volunteers from Northern Ireland make last minute preparations to take up their roles in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games this week.

Wendy Osborne OBE, Chief Executive, Volunteer Now, the lead organisation for volunteering in Northern Ireland, speaking at George Best Belfast City Airport said: “We wish a hearty good luck to the Games Makers, from Northern Ireland who will be volunteering at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
She added, “Over the next eight weeks, Games Makers will be part of a 70,000 strong team helping to deliver London 2012. They will also be ambassadors for Northern Ireland, representing their communities – from the Fermanagh Lakes to the Mountains of Mourne – and demonstrating the benefits of volunteering. We’re delighted that applicants for Games Maker roles came from every council area in Northern Ireland. Their roles may bring them into contact with spectators, athletes, VIPs and media from every continent for the world’s largest sporting fixture. We hope they have a wonderful volunteering experience and look forward to hearing their stories on their return.

“With the 2013 World Police and Fire Games volunteer recruitment going live on 1 September we hope people in Northern Ireland will be inspired by these Games Makers to get involved and apply to be part of our very own Olympic Games.”

The 2012 Project within Volunteer Now is funded by the Department of Arts, Culture and Leisure and aims to develop and deliver a volunteering legacy for Northern Ireland inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
