Viva España: Successful take-off for the first airberlin non-stop flight from Berlin to Madrid

  • The only non-stop service in operation from Berlin-Tegel to Madrid
  • Smooth transfer to onward flights via Berlin connecting Madrid with 16 destinations in Europe

2013-02-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — It was a successful premiere for the first airberlin flight from Berlin-Tegel to Madrid: on 25th February more than 130 flight guests and invited media representatives celebrated the inaugural flight to Madrid with flamenco and Spanish “churros” at the invitation of airberlin and Berlin Brandenburg Airport.

airberlin will operate the service on this route on a daily basis with a Boeing 737-800. The new non-stop flight will help to strengthen the airline’s hub in the German capital as well as its presence in one of the busiest Spanish markets.

On the occasion of this event to celebrate the inaugural flight, Otto Gergye, Senior Vice President Scheduled Services airberlin, said: “airberlin is the only airline to offer a non-stop service between Madrid and Berlin-Tegel on a daily basis. Last year around nine million flight guests from Germany, Austria and Switzerland flew to Spain with airberlin and we are confident that our new non-stop service between the two capital cities will be welcomed by business travellers and holidaymakers alike. With the new route, we are also consistently pursuing our network strategy. The smooth integration of the new route into our hub structure in Berlin provides international flight guests with excellent connections to the airberlin route network across Northern and Eastern Europe.”

Juan Pablo García-Berdoy y Cerezo, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain in Berlin, said: “We are delighted that airberlin is now operating their new Berlin – Madrid – Berlin route connecting the capital cities of Germany and Spain. The exceptionally high demand for travel between the two capitals is on the increase in both countries among holidaymakers and business travellers alike. airberlin has provided the perfect response to this need. Moreover, the airline is helping to further strengthen the close bilateral relationship between Germany and Spain.”

Dr. Till Bunse, Vice President Marketing and Public Affairs of Berlin Brandenburg Airport said: “We are delighted that airberlin is now operating a non-stop service between the two hubs Berlin and Madrid. The route highlights airberlin’s commitment to expanding its hub in Berlin. This is good news for everyone in Berlin and Brandenburg. Shortly before the beginning of the summer schedule, the German and Spanish capitals are now even better connected.”

The non-stop flight takes off from Berlin-Tegel every day at 08:50 and lands in Madrid-Barajas at 12:00. The return flight from Madrid leaves at 13:15, landing in Berlin at 16:15. By offering these optimum take-off and landing times in Berlin and Madrid, airberlin is able to connect Madrid with 16 destinations in Europe via Berlin. This means, for example, that flight guests have a choice of six connections a week from Madrid to Stockholm via Berlin. Other cities in Northern Europe such as Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Oslo also have excellent connections to Madrid via the hub in Berlin. For guests wishing to make transfer flights from Eastern Europe or guests who want to fly from Madrid to Eastern Europe, the new connection also offers the perfect choice: the Polish cities of Krakow and Warsaw are both integrated into the hub in Berlin with a flight connection time of 50 minutes.

At Madrid airport, airberlin is based at the modern oneworld® Terminal 4, which is also used by its oneworld partner airlines Iberia and British Airways.
