Budapest, Hungary, 2015-2-5 — /Travel PR News/ — Turkish Cargo has increased the frequency of its scheduled flights to Budapest Airport to three a week. One of the world’s leading cargo airlines, Turkish Cargo sees great opportunities in the Hungarian market, which is reflected in its latest frequency increase.
Turkish Cargo has started to operate three scheduled cargo flights per week between Budapest and Istanbul. Depending on the volume of goods transported, the carrier flies the route with the cargo version of the Airbus A310 or the larger A330, transporting 38-64 tons of cargo per flight. The frequency increase is the result of the excellent performance of Turkish Cargo in the Hungarian market; the airline increased the volume of goods carried by nearly 30% in 2014 compared to the previous year, transporting approximately 3500 tons of cargo between the Hungarian and Turkish capitals.
Turkish Cargo aircraft primarily deliver textiles and electronics products manufactured in the Far East to Hungary, and take pharmaceutical and machinery products, as well as electronics products made in Hungary to Turkey. Turkish Airlines’ cargo subsidiary links Budapest with more than 260 cities in 108 countries all over the world, via Istanbul, including 48 cargo destinations. The carrier transports goods in the cargo holds of its 9 cargo aircraft and 253 airliners.
“The increase in air cargo traffic between Budapest and Istanbul is a good illustration of the economic relations between these two dynamically developing countries. We congratulate Turkish Cargo on its growth at Budapest Airport,” said József Kossuth József, cargo manager for Budapest Airport. “This increase to three flights per week further enhances Hungarian-Turkish commercial relations. It could have a significant impact not only on businesses operating around the two airports, but also on logistics infrastructure in the region,” he added.
Turkish Airlines commenced air cargo operations nearly 80 years ago, in 1936. Since the early 2000’s, its growing cargo business has been handled by its subsidiary, Turkish Cargo. To increase service quality and to facilitate seamless operations, a new cargo terminal with an area of 71 000 m2, able to handle approximately 1.2 million tons of cargo per year, was opened at Istanbul Airport on 1 January 2015.
