Dance battle is Saturday followed by Independence Day BBQ Tuesday

Oakland, Calif., 2017-Jun-30 — /Travel PR News/ — Jack London Square is home to round two of the new Oakland grown, urban dance competition, “Turfin Vs. The World Dance Battle” series. The family friendly festival is Saturday, July 1, noon to 6 PM. It is free and open to the public. This celebration of dance leads into Tuesday’s Independence Day Backyard BBQ at the Oakland waterfront scheduled from noon to 6 PM.

Turfin vs. the World Dance Battle is a new event at Jack London Square that was first introduced in April. The festival features urban dance style, live music, workshops and local eats and vendors. In addition to the invite-only dance battles, there is a separate competition open to the public. A third round in the Dance Battle is planned for the fall. Turf dancing is a combination of boogaloo, breakdance, footwork, house dance, mime, and storytelling.

“Jack London Square block parties are adding a new dimension of fun at the Oakland waterfront,” said Port of Oakland Director of Commercial Real Estate Pamela Kershaw. “Whether it’s a celebration of food, movies, recreation or local artisans, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at the Square thanks to the vision of our event organizers and tenants.”

Preparations are underway for celebrating Independence Day at Jack London Square. The July 4th Backyard BBQ will feature tasty treats, music, and plenty of interactive activities and entertainment for both parents and children. This is free to attend. Fireworks are not allowed in Jack London Square.

There are 55 free public events throughout the year in Jack London Square. The Square is a historic working waterfront and is one of the Bay Area’s premier recreational, dining and commercial districts.
