Tirana, Albania, 2016-Dec-06 — /Travel PR News/ — Tirana International Airport (TIA) announced on Friday, 2 December 2016, the achievement of two major passenger traffic milestones in welcoming its two millionth passenger and recording the largest ever number of customers served at the airport.

Boosted by an increase in flights and expansion of routes served by airline carriers, passenger traffic grew by an impressive 8% in 2016 compared to 2015. In addition, the Airport has welcomed three new airlines this year and started four routes, a total of 14 airlines connecting 36 destinations during the year.

The two million landmark was reached when passenger Mr. Ahmet Balla, 62, arrived at TIA on Jet Airways’ evening flight to Brussels. To mark the occasion the Airport hosted a celebration and surprised the passenger with a one-week vacation full package in 2017.

“Tirana International Airport has achieved a great figure today, and we are more than satisfied with the greatest growth for TIA and the country with air transport at the beginning of the end-of-year festivities. A big thank you to all our passengers, airlines and third parties involved in daily operations at the Airport. Two million dedications to each employee and passenger,” said Dr Rolf Castro-Vasquez, TIA’s Chief Executive Officer.

In 2016, three airlines began operations at TIA: Volotea Airlines, Albawings and Mistral Air.

TIA reached its one millionth passenger milestone in 2007.
