Competitors Make it a Souper-Clamifragilisticexpialidocious Event

SANTA CRUZ, CA, 2014-2-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — The 33rd Annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off is firing things up at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk this Saturday, February 22, 2014. Both professional and amateur chefs will prepare sixty-five chowders.

Admission to the rain or shine event is free; tasting kits are $9 for 5 samples. Both Manhattan and Boston clam chowders will be available.

Preparation and cooking start at 10am, tasting starts at 1pm. Winners will be announced at 4:00pm. Visitors are advised to arrive before noon for the popular event.

Last year the Clam Chowder Cook-Off raised more than $62,000 for the City of Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation Department, over $1M since 1981. Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation staff work closely with the Boardwalk to coordinate the well-attended event.

Local restaurants hoping to bring home the gold this year include Ideal Bar and Grill, Aquarius, Severino’s Bar & Grill, South Beach Pizza, the Buttery, and Rocky’s Café.  Out-of-town competitors will arrive from as far afield as Sacramento and Clovis.

Hoping to bring home an award for Most Original Team, look for the Manhattan Madhatters, Silence of the Clams, Rack of Clams, Clam Halen, 4 Men and a Clam, and Souper-Clamifragilisticexpeialidocous to raise the bar for creativity.

Boardwalk rides are scheduled to open from 11am to 6pm on the day of the event, weather permitting. For more information please visit http://www.beachboardwalk.com/clamchowder/.
