Thanksgiving Holiday Parking Offer and Travel Tips from Silicon Valley’s Airport

Take off $4 per day in SJC’s Daily Lots

SAN JOSE – 2012-11-15 — /travelprnews.com/ — Travelers planning to take off from Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) during the Thanksgiving holiday will enjoy a welcoming airport team, discounted parking, and improvements to customer services, making SJC the easy choice for travel in the Bay Area.

The most important advice to travelers is to: 1) check-in online in advance, 2) arrive two hours before flight departure time, and 3) be patient if delays occur. With increased passenger activity, moving through the terminals will take longer than usual. However, airline and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) staff is prepared to welcome and assist travelers as they check in with their luggage, and to efficiently guide them through security screening.

SJC anticipates an increase of up to two percent in passenger activity over the same holiday period in 2011. SJC flights are typically full already, and airplanes are expected to be close to 90 percent full on the busiest travel days which are Wednesday, November 21, Sunday, November 25, and Monday, November 26. Holiday travel typically begins on the Friday before Thanksgiving.

SJC travelers will enjoy taking the guesswork out of parking for the holidays. Since the Economy Lot, at $15 per day, is expected to fill the weekend before Thanksgiving, SJC is reducing the parking rate in the closer-in Daily Lots to $18 a day, which is a daily discount of $4. The discounted rate is valid for vehicles entering the Daily Lots from November 16 through November 23, 2012.

Those flying on Terminal A airlines (American, Delta, Hawaiian, JetBlue, United, US Airways, and Volaris) should park in Daily Lot 4. Travelers on Terminal B airlines (Alaska and Southwest) can park in Daily Lot 6. Shuttles will transport travelers to their respective terminal. For a complete parking map and rate list, go to flysanjose.com.

During the holidays there are more travelers who are not as familiar with the rules and procedures for air travel and security. Recent changes to TSA screening procedures allow passengers 12 and under and 75 and older to leave their shoes on, and the senior group to leave on light jackets. Holiday gifts should remain unwrapped, and many passengers have questions about traveling with food. Travelers should check TSA.gov to get current information about security requirements.

Airport staff is sprucing up the facilities for holiday travelers and offering more amenities and services. Travelers on international flights will notice improvements to the Federal Inspection Services building, including new carpeting, a freshly painted arrivals hall, and new exterior plants that complement the facility. Newly installed hand sanitizer units are available as passengers exit security screening into the concourses, and new massage chairs are located through the terminals. Additionally, a beautiful fall display along the return-to-terminal roadway loop south of Terminal B and holiday decorations in the terminals are a must-see for all airport users.
