Southwest BBQ Academy Comes to Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North This Fall

Learn barbecue secrets at the hands of celebrated pitmaster Harry Soo and Four Seasons chefs

Scottsdale, U.S.A., 2012-08-16 — /travelprnews.com/ — Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North is teaming up with Grand Champion Pitmaster Harry Soo of Slap Yo’ Daddy BBQ to offer the Southwest BBQ Academy: MBA (Masters in BBQ Arts) October 18 – 21, 2012. Presented by Tempe-based BBQ Island, this event promises to be a chance for attendees to rub shoulders with the best in the business, while mastering basic techniques of grilled meats, savoury sauces and barbecue techniques.

Soo’s mastery behind the grill, and knowledge of techniques and tricks, will help any aspiring barbecue enthusiast hone their skills.”

The session will begin on Thursday, October 18 with a welcome reception featuring Harry Soo and Executive Chef Mel Mecinas fromFour Seasons Resort Scottsdale. The following day, participants will learn the basics of the grill and how to prepare up to 10 different dishes and sides, with equipment provided on site by BBQ Island. On Saturday, the lessons continues with hands-on practice with sauces, regional dishes, and “low-and-slow” barbecue items and sides. Sunday concludes the weekend with a graduation ceremony and brunch, catered by the culinary team at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale.

The Southwest BBQ Academy weekend includes accommodations for three nights at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale, a specialty arrival amenity, welcome reception, two learning sessions and lunches, graduation brunch, Slap Yo’ Daddy apron, class manual, graduation diploma and takeaway departure gift from BBQ Island. About Harry Soo

Harry Soo is a Grand Champion BBQ pitmaster who left Malaysia in the early 1980s to attend Texas Tech University, where he fell in love with Texas brisket. Soo developed his passion for cooking by watching culinary shows and cooking for family and friends. He was volunteered into a “Bucket List” group at work, inspired by the movie of the same name. One of his life goals was to compete in a BBQ contest. Soo ended up winning Reserve Champion (2nd overall) in his first contest in 2008, and began to cook competitively. His barbecue team, Slap Yo’ Daddy BBQ, was featured on TLC’s BBQ Pitmasters Season One. To date, he has won more than 75 first-place titles and 27 Grand Championship barbecue awards. He has trained more than 500 students across the United States, Canada and England, many whom have gone on to become Grand Champion pitmasters.
