Smurfs to welcome passengers at Brussels Airport

Brussels Airport is expecting a record number of passengers during the Easter holidays, 3% more than in 2015, the record year. To ensure that everything runs smoothly during the holiday rush, Brussels Airport will again open family lanes at security screening during the busiest days of the holidays. Families with young children will be welcomed by the Smurfs. In the next coming weeks, Brussels Airport has a big surprise for its intercontinental passengers. After the rocket of Tintin, the most renowned personalities of the Belgian comic books will move to the heart of Concourse B.

Brussels, Belgium, 2017-Apr-03 — /Travel PR News/ — This Easter vacation, Brussels Airport will be welcoming a record number of passengers. The top days will be Friday 31 March with 75,000 passengers and Monday 3 April with 77,000. In comparison with record year 2015, there will be 3% more passengers using the airport.

Belgians like to spend the Easter break in the sun; the Mediterranean is a favourite. In particular, Spain, the Canary Islands, Turkey and the north of Africa attract many tourists. The popular long-haul destinations are the Dominican Republic, New York and Toronto.

A Smurfy start to the holidays!

Brussels Airport will again be operating a separate lane at security screening for families during the busiest periods of the holidays. In the dedicated lanes, families will have all the space and time to go through screening with the children and they will be given additional help with prams and baby food. Earlier tests have shown that on busy days the presence of family lanes makes for a smoother screening process, both for the families and other passengers.

And to welcome the youngest passengers, the Smurfs will be waiting for them at this lane. On 1 May, the Smurfs will be moving permanently to Concourse B of the intercontinental flights. Alongside Tintin, the Smurfs are the world’s most appreciated Belgian comic heroes. That is why Brussels Airport wants to pay tribute to one of the most popular symbols of Belgium.

Check how busy things will be

During the holiday and also in the weeks following, it can get very busy at the airport. To keep the passengers fully informed, the airport will be publishing a “barometer” on the airport website(http://www.brusselsairport.be/en/passngr/deppax/expected-rush) to indicate just how busy.

On very busy days, Brussels Airport advises passengers to come to the airport by public transport or to make use of the passenger drop off zone at Brucargo . From there, a free bus of De Lijn or a shuttle bus to the terminal departs every 10 minutes.

Another possibility for dropping off passengers is the free drop off zone just 300 metres from the terminal on the same level as the bus station. People wanting to pick up passengers, can make use of the Front Parks P1, P2 and P3. With the Pcard+, the first 30 minutes in these car parks are free of charge.

Passengers arriving at the airport in their own car can best book their parking in advance in one of the Front Parks or on the discount car parks at Brucargo. The free buses and shuttles to the terminal also drive by the discount car parks to pick up passengers.

It can also be busy at the airport after the Easter holidays. Passengers are advised to book their parking in advance or come to the airport by public transport.
