2012-11-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — Sheremetyevo International Airport has emerged as a winner of the 13th annual Company of the Year business competition in the “Transportation/Logistics” category — this according to Russia’s leading business magazine Kompaniya (Company). The award ceremony was held on 23 October. More than 50 companies operating in various industries were recognized as competition winners.
Sheremetyevo Airport was awarded the distinguished title 2012 Transportation Company of the Year in recognition of the launch and introduction of its Airport Operation Center (AOC).
Sheremetyevo pays special attention to ensuring and constantly improving the level of security and management efficiency at the airport. In late 2011, Sheremetyevo introduced Russia’s first Airport Operation Centre (AOC); its creation was based on the experience of the world’s leading airports (e.g. Zurich and Heathrow).
“Sheremetyevo International Airport is one of the three best European airports in terms of the caliber of its passenger servicing.Receiving the Company of the Year prize provides the airport team with tremendous motivation to continue working on further improvements” remarked Anna Zakharenkova, Head of the Airport’s Public Relations Center, as she received the award.
Today, the Airport Operation Center is a strategic project that makes it possible to manage business processes, swiftly coordinate Airport divisions and third-party actions, synchronize the joint actions of all participants in the process encompassing the servicing of aircrafts, passengers and luggage, as well as to implement the real-time monitoring and analysis of the situation on the ground at Sheremetyevo Airport.
The Airport Operation Centre includes a Situation Centre (SC) which, activated upon the onset of particularly challenging situations, is intended for coordination of the joint work conducted by the airport’s top-managers, senior state-agency officials and Sheremetyevo partners.
The Editorial Board of Kompaniya magazine has held the Company of the Year competition since 1999, based on constant monitoring and analysis of various markets. Competition participants feature companies that have achieved outstanding success in their respective fields over the year and played a significant role in national economic development. The winners are chosen by an expert board composed of well-known journalists, independent experts, and representatives of business associations and government agencies.
The Company of the Year competition is highly-regarded within the business community, and winning it is considered solid evidence of outstanding business achievements.
Over the years, past recipients of the Company of the Year award have included: Sberbank of Russia, Rosneft Oil Company, MMC Norilsk Nickel, RAO UES, Binbank, Rosgosstrakh, EuroChem, JSC “RZD,” BMW Group Russia, Vimpelcom (Beeline), Novotek, TNK-BP, Uralsib, ROSNO, Transneft and other Russian economic powerhouses.
Sheremetyevo International Airport is the largest Russian airport which handles internal and international airlines. 83,04% of the shares of JSC SIA belong to the state represented by Federal Property Management Agency. Sheremetyevo Airport’s network of routes includes more than 200 destinations.
In 2011, Sheremetyevo’s total passenger traffic was 22,555,000 people, which is 16.7% more than in 2010.
