Shannon enjoys record month for Business Aviation traffic

2012-07-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Director of Shannon Airport, Mary Considine has today said that last month’s record number of Business Aviation jets landing in Shannon gives further confidence that this sector can be an area of growth for the airport.

A total of 460 ‘Business Aviation jet movements ’ took place at Shannon in June, which was the largest number of movements in and out of the airport ever in a single month and a 26% increase on the figure (367) recorded in the corresponding month last year.

Said Ms Considine:  “The increase in June is very welcome as all gains in the aviation industry are hard to make right now.  While terminal traffic remains our priority area, we have been putting increased focus also on business aviation at Shannon over recent years as it is a potential growth area.  We have witnessed steady growth as a result and June has been an exceptional month.
“This is of benefit not just to Shannon but the entire region as this exposes us to some of the world’s leading high-net worth individuals and corporations, which can only be good. We are witnessing particular growth across the Middle-East and US markets and this is no coincidence as Shannon is as a potential crossroads for business aviation travel between these regions.
“This is because of our geographical location and the fact that we are the only airport in the world with US Preclearance for business aviation.  There is increased demand for these Preclearance services as a result, which is also welcome.”

Ms Considine said that the record month also comes on the back of our recent business aviation convention, which was a huge success also as Shannon hosted some of the principal operators in the business globally at the two-day event.

“We also had the announcement at the convention that Quintessentially Aviation, the aviation wing of the world’s leading luxury lifestyle group Quintessentially, is to develop its first Irish VIP lounge at Shannon Airport.  This will link us in with the world’s most exclusive private/cororate jet airport, Al Bateen Airport in Abu Dhabi, where Quintessentially are developing a flagship lounge also.”
