Travel Weekly Lauds SFO as Sustainability Leader and Recognizes Its Social Media Program
SAN FRANCISCO, 2012-09-10 — /travelprnews.com/ — Travel Weekly, a business-to-business resource for the travel industry, recently announced the winners of its annual Magellan Awards, and in this Olympic year, San Francisco International Airport came away with both a gold award and a silver award.
San Francisco International Airport won the Gold Magellan for being a “sustainability leader” in the Airport category of “Overall – Eco-Friendly ‘Green’ Airport.” SFO was awarded the Silver Magellan for its overall social media program.
“Being recognized by Travel Weekly is a great honor,” said Airport Director John L. Martin. “In particular, for SFO to receive the Gold Magellan, and be specifically highlighted as a leader in airport sustainability, is an unparalleled recognition of the Airport’s commitment to being responsible stewards of our environment.”
The Travel Weekly Magellan Awards honors the best in travel and salutes the outstanding travel professionals behind it all. Winners are featured in an issue of Travel Weekly in October that will include a section dedicated to this year’s winners. Winners will also receive a custom produced statuette made by the same company that produces the Oscar® and Emmy® awards.
