Scott McFarland exhibition presented to passengers at Toronto Pearson International Airport

TORONTO, 2014-2-19 — /travelprnews.com/ — Transitions, an exhibition featuring two large format panoramas by Scott McFarland, is presented to passengers by No. 9: Contemporary Art and the Environment, in partnership with Toronto Pearson’s Art and Exhibits Program. Curated by Cara Said, the exhibit is located in the departures level of Terminal 1 (south of Air Canada ticket counters), and runs until June 15, 2014.

The two works, Cheltenham Badlands, Old Base Line Rd, Caledon, Ontario 2011, and Wortley’s Wiggle, Caledon Ski Club, Mississauga Rd., Caledon, Ontario 2012, are representative of No. 9’s mandate to engage people with the environment through art. Each of these images demonstrates the transition between Canadian winter and spring.

The transition from winter to spring is such a positive and celebrated time for Canadians. This transition from short days and cold nights to long, event-filled warm days, is presented beautifully in Cheltenham Badlands. On the other end of the spectrum, Wortley’s Wiggle, represents a rapid, unnatural transition from winter to spring and a sense of loss for the ending season. No. 9 explains that these images demonstrate the close relationships Canadians have with nature, enticing thought on how much the four seasons play a part in Canadian identity, guiding our social, recreational and cultural traditions. The works are nostalgic, producing a sense of connection, and in turn leading you to question the effects and repercussions of environmental change.
