Happy at Home
2013-01-24 — /travelprnews.com/ — The San Diego Zoo’s panda cub, Xiao Liwu, is enjoying his new home and getting comfortable in his new surroundings. Xiao Liwu has been climbing up into the trees in his new habitat and enjoys sitting up in the branches, as well as taking naps in the sunshine.
Since the five-month-old panda cub has gone on exhibit, there have been some new adventures for him, such as climbing trees and exploring the hay-lined moat and shallow pond. Keepers have called the cub a confident climber but have said the cub will have some tumbles while he’s gaining climbing skills, which is very normal for a cub his age.
Only 1,600 giant pandas are believed to exist in the wild, and the species is primarily threatened by habitat loss. San Diego Zoo Global, in conjunction with giant panda experts from the Peoples Republic of China, continues to work on science-based panda conservation programs at the Zoo and in China.
