As of 5pm on Thursday, Southwest and AirTran intend to resume operations at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport at noon on Friday.

The suspension of service for Friday morning means Southwest will cancel approximately 23 total flights in and out of New Orleans for Friday. AirTran will cancel approximately 2 total flights in and out of New Orleans for Friday. In total, Southwest has canceled approximately 351 flights and AirTran has canceled approximately 105 flights due to Isaac.

Wednesday, August 29 – Evening Update on Operational Impact of Hurricane Isaac

As of 5pm on Wednesday, Southwest and AirTran have extended the suspension of operations at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport through the close of business on Thursday. We will continue to monitor the storm and make decisions regarding the resumption of service in New Orleans.

The suspension of service means Southwest will cancel approximately 76 total flights in and out of New Orleans for Thursday. AirTran will cancel approximately 8 total flights in and out of New Orleans for Thursday. In total, Southwest has canceled approximately 317 flights and AirTran has canceled approximately 103 flights due to Hurricane Isaac.

Wednesday, August 29 – Wednesday Update on Operational Impact of Hurricane Isaac

As of 8am on Wednesday, Southwest has extended the suspension of operations at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport through at least 5pm Thursday. We will continue to monitor the storm and make decisions regarding the resumption of service in New Orleans as well as other airports and cancelations.

The suspension of service means Southwest will cancel approximately 76 total flights per day in and out of New Orleans for Wednesday and Thursday. AirTran will cancel approximately 9 total flights per day in and out of New Orleans for Wednesday and Thursday. In total, Southwest has canceled approximately 300 flights and AirTran has canceled approximately 99 flights due to Hurricane Isaac.

Tuesday, August 28 – Tuesday Update on Operational Impact of Hurricane Isaac

As of 11am on Tuesday, Southwest continued suspension of operations at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport through early Thursday morning. The suspension of service means Southwest will cancel approximately 76 total flights per day in and out of New Orleans for Tuesday and Wednesday. AirTran will cancel approximately 14 total flights per day in and out of New Orleans for Tuesday and Wednesday.

We will continue to monitor the storm and make decisions regarding other airports and cancelations as needed. In total, Southwest has canceled approximately 250 flights and AirTran has canceled approximately 90 flights due to Hurricane Isaac.

Monday, August 27 – Evening Update on Operational Impact of Isaac

As of 5:30pm on Monday, Southwest made the decision to suspend operations at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport through early Thursday morning. The suspension of service means Southwest will cancel approximately 70 total flights per day in and out of New Orleans for Tuesday and Wednesday. AirTran will cancel approximately 10 total flights per day in and out of New Orleans for Tuesday and Wednesday.

To accommodate extra Customers who are electing to fly today, Southwest has added three additional flights this evening from New Orleans.

We will continue to monitor the storm and make decisions regarding other airports and cancelations as needed. In total, Southwest has canceled approximately 200 flights and AirTran has canceled approximately 80 flights due to Tropical Storm Isaac.

Monday, August 27 – Midday Update on Operational Impact of Isaac

As of 1pm CDT today, Southwest Airlines canceled 13 flights and AirTran canceled 22 flights due to Tropical Storm Isaac.

The Florida airports affected by cancelations are Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, West Palm Beach, and Key West. Key West Airport made the decision to close until tomorrow. Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, and West Palm Beach reopened late this morning after closing yesterday.

Both Southwest and AirTran have suspended Tuesday, August 28, operations in New Orleans, which means approximately 40 flight cancelations inbound and 40 flight cancelations outbound. To accommodate extra Customers who are electing to fly today, Southwest has added three additional flights this evening from New Orleans.
