Mineta San José International Airport’s September passenger traffic up by 9.9 % compared to the same month last year

Marks 21 Consecutive Months of Passenger Growth

San José, Calif., 2014-10-30 — /Travel PR News/ — Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) marked 21 consecutive months of passenger traffic growth in September 2014, with a 9.9 percent increase in travelers compared to the same month last year. SJC served 788,249 departing and arriving passengers in September, for an overall calendar-year-to-date increase of 7.2 percent.

Passenger growth in September is attributed to airlines reporting strong passenger loads overall, and new or expanded nonstop service as follows:

  • Alaska Airlines which inaugurated a daily flight to Salt Lake City in June, and added seating capacity to Portland;
  • Delta Air Lines with new service to Seattle in May;
  • Hawaiian Airlines’ wide-body service to Honolulu which operated daily, compared to three times per week the prior year; and
  • Southwest Airlines which added frequency to Denver and Los Angeles, and offered Boeing 737 aircraft with larger seating capacity on some routes.

“We are so pleased for the healthy passenger increase of 9.9 percent in September, and that our growth trend continues beyond the peak summer travel season,” said Director of Aviation Kim Becker Aguirre. “This growth indicates Silicon Valley travelers are responding favorably to new and expanded service by our carriers. Whether travel is for business or leisure, passengers tell us they choose SJC for reliable and on-time flights, and our five-star customer service experience.”
