Malé, Maldives, 2016-May-31 — /Travel PR News/ — The Annual Italia Travel Awards took place on the 26th May 2016 evening. The venue of this year’s ceremony was the elegant Roman Aquarium located in the heart of the Italy’s capital Rome. The event began in evening with a Guest reception at 7:00 PM followed by Gala Dinner and awarding ceremony at 8:00PM.
Italia Travel Award is considered as the Oscar of the Travel Award in Italy. The main objective of the award is to encourage and boost quality of the Travel and Tourism products of the country. There were different categories of the award up for grasp. A total of 15 categories and 43 awards were presented to the respected winners.
This year Maldives was nominated for the Best Beach Destination. Competing for this award was Seychelles and Polynesia. The final three nominations for each category were selected after voting from both Travel Agent and the end consumer.
At the awarding ceremony Maldives was announced as the Best Beach Destination and won the prestigious Italia Travel Award. The award was received by Mrs. Giorgia Marazzi, The Honorary Consular for Maldives.
The Italian Market is one of the most important source markets for the Maldivian tourism Industry. The very first tourist group which arrived to Maldives were Italians. During the first quarter of 2016 a total of 27,167 Italians tourist spend their holidays in the Maldives. Compared last year the arrivals from Italian market have increased 4.5%.
