Maldives participates in Azerbaijan International Tourism Fair (AITF) in Baku

MALDIVES, 2015-4-6 — /Travel PR News/ — Maldives participates in Azerbaijan International Tourism Fair (AITF) which commenced today in the capital Baku. This is the first time Maldives is represented in the AITF fair by the national tourism board. Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) along with 5 companies with 10 representatives from the Maldives tourism industry is representing Maldives in the fair. The head of the Maldives delegation is Dr. Ahmed Salih, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tourism.

This is the 14th edition of AITF which will run till the 4th of April 2015. Over the years AITF has become the regional leader as a major international meeting place for the tourism industry. During the 3 days of the exhibition Maldives delegation will meet with the main tour operators from Azerbaijan and discuss on collaboration to promote the Maldives to the potential travellers from the country.

The official opening ceremony of the fair was held today @1100hrs at Baku Expo Centre, which was inaugurated by the Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Abulfas Garayev. Following the opening ceremony the Minister visited few selective stands including the Maldives which made Maldives a highlight at the fair. Minister Garayev was welcomed at the Maldives stand by Dr. Ahmed Salih, permanent secretary of the ministry of tourism. Minister garayev personally thanked the government of the Maldives and Minister of Tourism of Maldives, Hon Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor for participating at the fair.

News of Maldives participating at AITF was specifically communicated at the opening press conference held one day earlier of the start of the fair which was attended by all prominent media in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan is one of the fastest growing travel markets from the CIS countries. The market holds potential for the Maldives with its easy accessibility and the growing affluent market segments. Participation in the AITF is a key step to enter into the growing Azerbaijan outbound market.

Over the past years, there has been an increase in the arrivals from Azerbaijan to the Maldives. Although the arrival numbers are relatively small, there is a potential growth in the arrivals. In 2014, Maldives received 789 Azeri tourists into the country.

Maldives also plans to host media familiarization trips to increase the exposure in the Azerbaijani market.
