2012-08-10 — /travelprnews.com/ — A three-year baggage handling project worth DKK 50 million is close to a successful completion. The project includes a complete upgrade of the control systems for Copenhagen Airport’s baggage handling system.
The summer season is crunch time for Copenhagen Airport. With more than 6.5 million passengers during the three summer months, everything must work at the airport, not least baggage handling.
In a partnership with Danish based company Crisplant, Copenhagen Airport has now completed a comprehensive upgrade of the complex control systems for the many kilometres of baggage conveyor belts used to sort outgoing baggage.
A nighttime project
The work has typically been carried out at night when the volume of traffic and baggage is lowest. Copenhagen Airport’s COO, Kristian Durhuus, commends Crisplant for making sure that the upgrade work did not affect daily traffic and the important baggage handling service.
“Phase one of the project was successfully completed by Crisplant just before the summer season began. Phase two will be completed in the autumn as scheduled. This will give Copenhagen Airport a fully upgraded and state-of-the art sorting system designed to handle the growing passenger numbers we expect in the future,” said Christian Durhuus.
In CPH since 1988
Crisplant installed the airport’s first automated baggage sortation system in 1988, and the company has since designed and installed the baggage handling systems currently used in terminals 2 and 3. Klaus Schäfer, CEO of Crisplant adds:

Concurrently with Crisplant’s upgrade of the control system, Copenhagen Airport is starting up an expansion of the baggage facilities in a project worth DKK 250 million.
