Lufthansa starts one-off flight from Munich to Rio de Janeiro on 11 July

Frankfurt, Germany, 2014-6-27 — /Travel PR News/ — From the Isar to the Copacabana: those who want to experience the footballing atmosphere live in Brazil now have a special opportunity to do so. Just in time for the final, Lufthansa is starting a one-off flight from Munich to Rio de Janeiro on 11 July. A further connection is planned from Frankfurt on the same day. ‘The flight is a great opportunity for all those football fans who don’t just want to watch the scenes at the famous Copacabana on screen. It is also a unique chance to experience the atmosphere surrounding the World Cup final live in Rio de Janeiro on 13 July’, said Thomas Klühr, member of the Lufthansa German Airlines Board, Finances & Hub Munich.

The Airbus A340-600 with flight number LH 2572 will take off on 11 July at 10.30 p.m. and arrive in Rio de Janeiro the following day at 5.40 a.m. Return flights are available daily via Frankfurt. Those wanting to combine the trip with a holiday in Brazil can also fly back from São Paulo, where there are daily connections to Munich and Frankfurt.

In addition to the footballing experience, Rio de Janeiro offers a whole host of must-see attractions. These include the famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, the Cordovado with the statue of Christ and Sugarloaf Mountain. Lufthansa crews also recommend a trip to “Forto do Leme” for a breathtaking view of the city. The decisive among us can now book one of the few remaining seats from Munich to Rio de Janeiro.
The return flight in Economy Class is available from €1,099 including all fees and taxes (sample price for a return flight to Frankfurt on 22 July).

The Lufthansa flight to Rio de Janeiro is one of the most tradition-filled routes in the history of the airline. On 15 August 1956, Lufthansa launched the first South American passenger service from Hamburg via Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Paris and Dakar, before finally landing in Rio de Janeiro with a Lockheed L-1049G Super Constellation. The route was flown twice a week with a total flight time of around 22.5 hours, according to the flight plan. The Super Constellation was fitted with 48 “Comforette” seats, and passengers were treated to a ceremony when crossing the equator. These days, Rio de Janeiro can be reached with a daily flight from Frankfurt, and São Paulo from Frankfurt and Munich.
