Los Angeles International Airport ranked 3rd for the 2nd straight year among the nation’s busiest airports for offering healthy dining options

Los Angeles, California, 2015-1-13 — /Travel PR News/ — The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s 14th annual Airport Food Review ranked Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) third for the second straight year among the nation’s busiest airports for offering healthy dining options in 2014.  LAX scored 88 percent, behind Baltimore/Washington International which scored 92 percent and Seattle-Tacoma in second with 90 percent.  LAX has ranked in the Airport Food Review’s top 10 in 13 of the Physicians Committee’s 14 Airport Food Reviews.

A survey by Physicians Committee dietitians found that of LAX’s 59 eateries (including larger coffee shops, juice bars, and bakeries that serve entrées), 52 offered at least one healthful plant-based entrée featuring vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes. Facilities that do not serve entrées — such as snack-food kiosks, newsstands, and small coffee shops — were surveyed.

In particular, this year’s Airport Food Review highlighted the fresh, organic California produce at Real Food Daily (RFD) in LAX’s Terminal 4, the first all-vegan eatery at a U.S. airport.  RFD serves raw kale salads, lentil mushroom burgers and “real food” bowls packed with sea vegetables, black beans, kimchi and brown rice.  In addition, Lemonade in Terminal 5 offers more than a dozen varieties of fresh marketplace salads; Ford’s Filling Station also in Terminal 5 offers herbivore sandwiches; and Larder at Tavern in the New Tom Bradley International Terminal offers broccoli and cauliflower bowls.

Of note, LAX’s annual rankings have improved as the airport continues redeveloping its food-and-beverage and retail offerings to reflect Los Angeles’ diverse cuisine, culture, and lifestyle with a focus on “Putting the L.A. back into LAX.”  In addition to the New Tom Bradley International Terminal, during the past two years, new eateries opened in Terminals 4 (American Airlines), 5 (Delta Air Lines), and 7/8 (United Airlines).  As part of the ongoing multi-billion-dollar, LAX is Happening Modernization Program, more new, healthy dining options are expected to open soon in Terminals, 1, 2 and 6, including Earth Bar, Blue2O Seafood Grill & Bar, Ciabatta Bar, and Wahoo’s Fish Taco.
