Lonely Planet enters the Indian market with Lonely Planet for the Indian Traveller

2012-09-17 — /travelprnews.com/ — Today Lonely Planet launches a brand new series of guidebooks for Indian travellers which will be sold on the Indian subcontinent. A first of its kind product for the market, Lonely Planet for the Indian Traveller is the first locally produced outbound travel guide series which has been created specifically taking into account the needs of Indian travellers.

The collection consists of travel guides for 10 outbound destinations; Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Dubai, Bhutan, China, Great Britain, London, France and Italy, written by Indian authors living in the destinations. The authors focus on the information which is vital for Indian travellers, including the must-see sights, ideas on what to do with the family and a focus on Indian restaurants and vegetarian options.  The books are produced in full-colour and packed with photographs to inspire the reader.

Matt Goldberg, CEO of Lonely Planet, said; “Since publishing our first Lonely Planet travel guide to India in 1981, we have continued to follow the incredible growth this amazing country has experienced alongside the unique offerings it provides as a travel destination. I was therefore thrilled when our Delhi office became the company’s fourth international office, staffed by a local team of experts focused on the particular needs of the Indian traveller. This unique Lonely Planet for the Indian Traveller series of titles allows us to share the most sought-after advice with Indian travellers that could only come with four decades of travel publishing experience.”

Heading the Lonely Planet operations in India, Sesh Seshadri, General Manager of Lonely Planet India said, “Indian travellers have different needs and interests while travelling abroad, and previously haven’t been catered to extensively in the Indian publishing market. Lonely Planet is the first to introduce travel guides customized as per the Indian traveller’s sensibilities. The guides inspire and excite the Indian traveller with all the possibilities that the world has to offer. Safety and security concerns, recommended safe and clean accommodation, itineraries providing value for money and more; the travel guide series has everything an Indian traveller is looking out for at an affordable price. Lonely Planet believes in providing the best experience to travellers and we shall continue doing the same here for our Indian travellers.”

The Lonely Planet for the Indian Traveller series is available across all leading bookstores in India, the guides are priced from Rs. 495 to Rs. 595. This locally produced series has a yellow spine to make it clearly differentiated between Lonely Planet’s internationally produced blue-spine guides.
