Lonely Planet Celebrates Sydney

2013-01-24 — /travelprnews.com/ — Global travel authority Lonely Planet has published an all-new edition of its best-selling Sydney City Guide.

To celebrate the release of this 10th Edition, Lonely Planet has provided the 300-plus businesses included in the guide with a special “Featured by Lonely Planet 2013” window sticker to display as an endorsement.

“Compared to its Australian sister cities, Sydney is loud, uncompromising and in-your-face,” the guidebook says. “Australia’s best musos, foodies, actors, stockbrokers, models, writers and architects flock to the city to make their mark, and the effect is dazzling: a hyper-energetic, ambitious marketplace of the soul, where anything goes and everything usually does.”

According to this new edition, Sydney’s Top 10 attractions and experiences are: Sydney Opera House (1), Sydney Harbour National Park (2), The Rocks (3), Bondi Beach (4), Sydney’s Eateries (5), Sydney Harbour Bridge (6), Art Gallery of NSW (7), Royal Botanic Gardens (8), Aboriginal Rock Art (9) and Taronga Zoo (10).

Containing the trademark honesty and opinion for which Lonely Planet is renowned, the guidebook says, “Amid global financial meltdowns, soaring housing costs, gang turf wars and transport snags, Sydney remains reasonably upbeat.”

“Ultimately, Sydney’s relentlessly chipper attitude tends to bowl over (or at least distract from) any obstacle,” it says. “A swim in the surf, a bucket of prawns by the harbour, a kickin’ DJ set or a multicultural meal goes a long way toward convincing the majority of residents that life here is pretty darn good.”

The new edition has also hunted down the fresh, the transformed, the hot and the happening in Sydney, highlighting:

• Small bars (Shady Pines Saloon, Baxter Inn, Stitch)
• Museum of Contemporary Art’s Mordant Family Wing
• White Rabbit Gallery, Chippendale
• Eveleigh Farmers’ Market
• Vivid Sydney Festival
• Dugongs at Sydney Aquarium
• Madame Tussauds
• Westfield Sydney, Pitt Street Mall
• The Star, Pyrmont
