Katherine Grainger MBE to speak at 2012 Travel Convention in Turkey

2012-09-19 — /travelprnews.com/ — With only three weeks to go until The 2012 Travel Convention, ABTA is delighted to reveal today that Olympic Gold Medallist Katherine Grainger MBE will be speaking at The Travel Convention.

Katherine will be attending the Convention as a special guest of The Telegraph and will be interviewed on stage as part of a session on ‘Maximising your performance’. She will be talking about her experiences of London 2012 and revealing the key ingredients for sustaining elite performance over a longer period, such as: teamwork; overcoming challenges; motivation; winning and the importance of communication.

Victoria Bacon, Head of Communications, ABTA said: “The whole nation has been inspired this summer by watching athletes perform to their peak. We’re delighted to be able to bring some of that Olympic magic to the Convention with Katherine sharing her exciting and inspiring story with us in person. As a multiple Olympic medallist Katherine is a top performer and there is no doubt that we’ll all be able to learn something from her focus and motivation.”

Katherine Grainger is Britain’s most successful female rower, with Olympic gold at London 2012 to add to her silver medals from Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004, and Beijing in 2008, as well as six world championships titles in her collection. She was appointed MBE in 2006 for services to rowing, and her Olympic achievements make her the first female British athlete – in any sport – to gain medals in four consecutive Olympic Games.

Katherine’s international rowing career took off in 1997 when she raced in a coxless pair from Cambridge University and won the gold medal at the World under 23 Rowing Championships, setting a new record for the event. She is the Honorary President of the Scottish Amateur Rowing Association. In 2009, she was named as Scottish Sportsperson of the Year and awarded the “Emirates Lonsdale Trophy” by Commonwealth Games Scotland, the first female to win this prestigious award. In 2012 she was chosen as one of the five athlete ambassadors for promoting the key messages of Team GB – the 2012 Olympic Team.

Katherine will speak on Friday 12th October at the Travel Convention in Turkey. For a full line up of speakers and sessions please see: www.thetravelconvention.com
