Interview: Why airberlin is focusing on Poland

2013-07-04 — /travelprnews.com/ — Interview: Why airberlin is focusing on Poland

airberlin:
Mr. Gergye, airberlin has continued to grow in Poland this year. How do you see airberlin’s position in this market?

Otto Gergye:
Poland is a strategic growth market for airberlin and has a strong economy as well as a rising demand for flights. Thanks to the new non-stop connection from Berlin to Warsaw that has been in place since March 2013, we have further strengthened our position in the Polish market and, by serving Warsaw, Kraków and Gdansk, we are able to offer flights to and from the three most important Polish airports. The quality of the airberlin product speaks for itself and represents our strongest argument. For instance, we have a modern and eco-efficient fleet with an average age of five years, we provide an excellent service both on the ground and in the air and we offer a network with superb connection options to destinations throughout the world via the hub in Berlin.

airberlin:
Which challenges does airberlin face in the Polish market and where is there still a need for optimisation?

Otto Gergye:
With 18 weekly non-stop flights between Berlin and Warsaw, airberlin is already the airline with the largest offering in terms of flights. airberlin has added to the number of flights between Berlin and Kraków to increase the frequency of services and has been operating flights on this route three times a day during the week since March 2013. Gdansk also offers an excellent connection to Berlin with two daily non-stop flights. However, our goal is to continue to grow even more in Poland and further increase awareness of our offering. Among other things, a committed on-site sales team enables us to succeed in this respect.

airberlin:
It is the main holiday season and summer is just around the corner. We would therefore like to know what your personal tips for a perfect trip to Poland would be.

Otto Gergye:
Poland has something to offer for all tastes when it comes to travel. It offers such variety that it is difficult to make a choice. Personally speaking, however, Warsaw’s old town is one of my favourite locations and was quite rightfully designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The concerts in front of the Royal Castle, for example, would be worth mentioning as a special tip for summer.

About Otto Gergye:
Otto Gergye has been Senior Vice President Sales Scheduled Services at airberlin since February 2012. In this position, he is responsible for scheduled services at the airline. Otto Gergye has extensive experience in leadership positions in the airline industry and has also spent several years working for various companies in the corporate sales sector.
