IHG: Hotel Indigo opens its third New York City hotel

Hotel Indigo Lower East Side New York is Third New York City Hotel in Brand’s Growing Boutique Portfolio

ATLANTA, 2015-11-20 — /Travel PR News/ — InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, and Brack Capital Real Estate (BCRE) announce the opening of the Hotel Indigo® brand’s third New York City hotel, the 293-room flagship Hotel Indigo Lower East Side New York. Located at 171 Ludlow Street, the hotel sits in the heart of one of Manhattan’s most storied neighborhoods. Enriched with the culture of its first inhabitants, arts and creative exploration, the Lower East Side (LES) is filled with the most dynamic spots in NYC today. The neighborhood has seen everything from immigrants passing through Ellis Island in the early 20th century and the wave of artists who took up residence in the 1960’s, to the graffiti art that covered the streets in the 1980’s and 1990’s. It’s now a neighborhood defined by adventurous trendsetters of the current generation – and where music, art and dance legends have all spent time, gained influence and made an impact.

Jason Moskal, Vice President, Lifestyle Brands, The Americas, IHG said: “As the excitement for boutique hotels continues to grow, we are thrilled to launch our newest flagship Hotel Indigo hotel in the heart of New York City’s Lower East Side. This hotel will also serve as the canvas for the brand’s newest campaign, Color of Discovery, bringing guests an unparalleled opportunity to discover the unique story of one of the city’s most intriguing neighborhoods. From the culture of its inhabitants to its bright, graffiti-painted streets, guests will be inspired by the glamour of the neighborhood which is seamlessly integrated into the design and service style of the Hotel Indigo Lower East Side New York.”

Issac Hera, CEO, BCRE added: “We are proud to see our vision turn into a reality as we add the Hotel Indigo Lower East Side New York to our growing portfolio. Hotel Indigo is a well-respected and sought-after boutique brand, and this flagship property will become the anchor hotel of the neighborhood. For guests and locals alike, this Hotel Indigo hotel will be a gathering space that inspires and embraces the people and culture of the Lower East Side throughout the hotel experience.”

When guests first arrive, they will immediately be drawn in by the art and architecture uniquely incorporated into the hotel’s design. From the ground floor entryway, guests will proceed to the 14th floor lobby which offers unobstructed city views via floor-to-ceiling windows spanning the entire space. The impressive 5,000 sq. ft. terrace located on the west side of the 15th floor offers 360-degree views of Manhattan and is outfitted with its own swimming pool, bar and a variety of seating options.

The hotel commissioned legendary street artist Lee Quinones to help bring the distinctive neighborhood to life throughout the hotel experience. From the custom life-sized mural on the lobby ceiling to the unique wall art within guestrooms and elevator lobbies, all of Quinones’ work vividly brings the storied past and present of the Lower East Side to life. Quinones, who was raised in the LES, is one of the originators of street art in the 1970’s and was instrumental in moving street art above ground. In 1980, he ushered in an important era as spray paint made the transition from moving objects to stationary canvas works. The hotel also features two art sculptures from filmmaker and street artist Mr. Brainwash (aka Thierry Guetta) on loan from his “Life is Beautiful” pop-up gallery.

In partnership with the acclaimed Gerber Group, the Hotel Indigo Lower East Side New York features Mr. Purple, an 8,750 sq. ft. neighborhood rooftop bar & restaurant located on the 15th floor. The space captures the vibrant and artistic spirit of the LES with an artist-loft ambiance. Mr. Purple’s menu will connect guests with local iconic culinary staples such as Russ & Daughters, 2nd Avenue Deli, Pat LaFrieda, Pickle Guys, Il Laboratorio del Gelato, Yonah Schimmel Knish Bakery and Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, in addition to featuring locally sourced ingredients. The cocktail, beer and wine menu features an expansive collection of small-batch spirits, regionally brewed craft beers, universal wine offerings and a rotating selection of Gerber Group’s classic and modern cocktails that highlight market fresh ingredients. The hotel also offers guests and locals the opportunity to enjoy seasonal and locally sourced food and drinks at the café and bar located on the lobby level from purveyors such as Liquiteria, Irving Farm and Melt Bakery.

Starting from the 5th floor, the spacious guestrooms feature unobstructed views of midtown Manhattan and the downtown skyline; plush bedding; hard-surface flooring with area rugs; and spa-inspired bathrooms with locally sourced C.O. Bigelow apothecary amenities. The hotel includes four spacious luxury suites and one unforgettable duplex penthouse loft. The penthouse sits on the 25th and 26th floors overlooking downtown Manhattan and offers clear views of the New York City skyline. Guests also have access to a 24-hour fitness center and over 600 sq. ft. of meeting space, including a private outdoor area perfect for events. The Lower East Side hotel features the brand’s Neighborhood Guide, an innovative touchscreen display that connects guests to each other, the local neighborhood and to Hotel Indigo locations around the world. Hotel team members, many of whom are locals themselves, will share their favorite hidden gems with guests looking to explore and discover the neighborhood.

The Hotel Indigo Lower East Side New York is a joint venture between IHG and BCRE and is managed by IHG.
