Iberia promotes best spanish wines to Business Travellers

From August through October long-haul business passengers can choose reds from Rioja, Toro, and Castilla La Mancha, and whites from Rueda and Rías Baixas.

Madrid, 2012-07-27 — /travelprnews.com/ — Iberia, advised by the Todovino Spanish wine specialist consulting firm, has selected the wines to be offered to its long-haul Business Plus passengers in the August-October period. Iberia flights to and from the Americas constitute a show window for the great diversity and quality of Spain’s wines.

During the quarter Iberia customers can choose amongst reds from La Rioja, Toro (Zamora province), and Castilla-La Mancha. Whites available aboard Iberia’s long-haul flights will include one from the Rueda region and another from the Rías Baixas in green Galicia in north-western Spain.

The wines can be enjoyed on board and in Iberia VIP lounges in Terminal 4 of the Madrid-Barajas airport. In both locations customers will find copious information about the selections, including a video in which Iberia’s “in-flight sommelier” Custodio L. Zamarra tastes and discusses the wines with their vintners.

The Quarter’s Selections

Vetus 2008 Tinto (D.O. Toro). A project by the Antón family, of the Artevino group which includes Izadi y Orben in La Rioja of Alava province and Finca Villacreces in Ribera del Duero. Its aim is to make wine of character using native grapes. In Toro it has opted for a single vineyard wine with carefully selected local grapes. Its leading label, Vetus, is a fruity, well-balanced red, jovial, and with an intelligent harmony between structure and potency.

Glorioso Reserva 2007 Tinto (D.O.Ca. Rioja). A classic label of the centuries-old Bodegas Palacio (Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa), which has been made since the 1920s. This red, with a new image and bottle, is a classic and represents great value for money amongst its peers. Made solely from tempranillo vines at least 30 years old, it is an expressive reserve, fruit with spicy notes and a delicate and silky texture.

Finca Antigua Syrah 2010 Tinto (D.O. La Mancha). This is the result of an intriguing project by one branch of the Martínez Bujanda vintners of La Rioja (Finca Valpiedra) at an historic vineyard at one of the highest altitudes in La Mancha. Made exclusively with syrah grapes from vines native to the Rhône valley in France, now well-adapted to the warmer Spanish climate, the 2009 vintage is mature, complex, with pleasing generosity and lively acidity. An inviting, balanced wine in which aging in casks plays a discrete but essential role.

Monte Blanco de Ramón Bilbao 2011 Blanco (D.O. Rueda). This is another initiative by Rioja vintners in Rueda, in this instance the highly efficient Ramón Bilbao, who disembarked in the zone by building a winery and reaching agreements with local owners of some 280 hectares of vineyards. The result is a fruity, well-balanced white, with a pleasant and refreshing citric character and adequate consistency in the mouth.

Nora da Neve Fermentado en Barrica 2008 Blanco (D.O. Rías Baixas). It is a real privilege to offer our passengers one of the best whites of Galicia and of all Spain. This albariño, one of outstanding character, is enhanced by its time in the barrel. This vintage is particularly opulent and voluminous, and may continue to develop in the bottle. The fermenting in large casks gives it a perfect balance with the wood.
